Was gonna take 2+ years at least, with a load of nonsense along the way, and would have been wheelchair bound well before then. Even going fully private it was cheaper for her and my sister to fly to sunny Spain for 2-3 weeks in a hospital resort + full operation + recovery package.

    This is wrong .

I am re-reading people's advice and absorbing anything people say .

Between last year and now my brother fell into serious illness and now he has died . My last link here . So I am reading all the Posts about how to go about things . We aim to be leaving in December .

There are people who behave recklessly and then regret it . OK I am too far the other way .... but you people have all the experience and I am learning from you .

Everyone jumps onto the Thai news as evidence Thailand is a shithole when the main story is "foreign man has a wee in the street", compare that to the violence happening in the UK that doesn't even make it out of the cities free rag.

Daily I start to read the News here in the UK and fairly quickly move on to something else ........ because what you say here is true .
Today there's a report about neighbours having a dispute about Parking . So this thug and his adult son used a machete and a plank with nails sticking out and they attacked the neighbour --- leaving him brain-damaged . Parking !?!

They got 20 Years in Jail . Cheeezuzzzz !!!!

If I could be leaving tomorrow - I would .

And this thread has once again reminded me that, despite appearances, it's not always about the nail in the forehead.

    .
    .

Moving on from my original Search for a good agent --- I started looking at YouTube Videos about life in Thailand . And realised that I had not given any thought at all to the matter of Mandatory Health Insurance . ( Don't step in and tell me I'm an idiot or a fuckwit or any of those things . I am ALL of them , OK ? )

So I made an enquiry to AXA Insurance ...... and the Quote was £7 000 !!! For a Year .
And it probably wouldn't even be acceptable as it seems you have to use an approved Thai Insurance Company .

I assume many of you have to take out the same Insurance . So is £7000 ( 294 000 Baht ) ridiculously expensive ?
You will already have done lots of searching around . You will have settled on a decent Company that meets Thai Requirements .
Would you be able to recommend an Insurance Company and give some idea of the Cost ?

Fortunately I have no Health problems right now .

    misskit .......

    Thank you . I didn't realise there is a Thai AXA . I applied for a quote . With a 100 000 Baht Deductible they quoted 72 000 Baht . Which is a LOT different .

People on these Videos talked also about ' Self Insurance ' . Is that a thing ?

Yes but its either risky or you could expose yourself to uncapped bills, depends if you are loaded. one import note, you need to ensure your partner has access to funds to pay the upfront costs and can deal with the insurance company in case your are incapable

^^ Sure. Self insurance- you don’t have insurance and you pay for your own hospital expenses.

Whether you can do this or not depends on what kind of visa you have.

My visa requires it which suits me because I would have it anyway. Hospitalization isn’t particularly cheap here.
