When your passport dies your extension dies with it and you have to start all over again. Who knew that? I still had my previous old passports and followed the procedure from 10 years ago. As I say I know of nobody that knew of this rule change. So a warning to others who have to renew their passport in the future. Your current extension dies at the same time as your passport does. Whereas in the past it didn't.
2014 had an "ahh fuck" moment renewing my extension, my passport only had 12 months till it expired and was told they can only give me a 12 month extension and not the usual 24 months, luckily had some time up my sleeve so instead rescheduled the application and went and renewed my passport.
