Any suggestions of a decent (price/clean) hotel near the Thai embassy in Kuala Lumpur? I'll be there 5 days with companion. Thanks for any suggestions.

^I been staying at the Crown Princess my last few trips. Five minute walk from embassy, lots of shopping and groceries nearby. Nice indian restaurant in the hotel, try it!
Also here are my KL visa run secrets.
1. Remember the 1 hour time change. (1 hour later)
2. the visa office opens at 09:30, but they open the embassy gate at 09:00.
arrive slightly before 09:00 and be one of the first in the gate.
They sign you in and hand you an application form.
3. Go sit in the doorway of the visa office and fill out your application (bring a pen and something to write on) You will be the first in line!
4. When they open the door take your number.
5. Be sure to have your photo and a photocopy of your passport.
6. And voila you will be outa there before 10:00!
7. come back the next day at 11:30 for your visa, keep the little number they give you as it makes them happy.
8. Be extra nice to the ladies taking the applications as they have to deal with a dozen or more whining assholes everyday!
9. Don't forget to bring enough money in ringit for your visa. (it's 500 for a one year non-immigrant)
10. Go for a ride up the Petronas Towers like a dumb tourist, it's fun!
Crown Princess isn't bad. More down market but still ok is the Fortuna which is at Bukit Bintang a 5 minute taxi from the embassy.
Agent smith, when you go get an extra copy of the visa application, that way we can upload it to the server so people can download it and have it filled out on arrival we have some already if you check out the visa section , I think the borders thread or which visa thread, one of the stickies anyway
Thank you for your replies and suggestions. I'm getting a 60 day single entry (unless they multiple available) tourist this run--DD you still want a copy of that for TD?
Earl thanks for the embassy tips Don't know if my companion would appreciate me getting some attention from the Chinese girls but thanks anyway

yea your welcome, I know because I've made many of those mistakes.
The time zone one is what really gets you if you screw that up.
go ahead a grab a extra copy of the application. It is the same form for all the visas. I would like to have a copy all filled out prior to arriving too. Also the application they give you seems to be printed on the cheapest sort of tracing paper they can find. If you can think of it take an extra folder to carry the extra application back in otherwise it will wad up pretty easily.
^^Yeah, funny about the time change since it's about the same longitude as Phuket. Thanks for your help Earl.
if you're going to be there for 5 days a pleasant side trip is to rent a car and drive up into the cameron highlands. The climate up there is amazing. Cool enough to need a jacket almost!
Another interesting sleepy little mountain station even closer. (just 90 kms from KL) is Bukit Fraser. It is very quiet with lots of birds and monkeys to see in an absolutely delicious cool rain forest climate.
And...I happen to still have the car rental agency #in my phone! hawk rentals 0172304882.
good service, they will bring the car to your hotel and pick it up. They rent the basic "Proton" which is a Malaysian Mitsubishi. I actually had to have them rescue me because the first car I rented just konked out 30 minutes out of KL while rolling into a rest stop. They where out inside of 2 hours with another car. Descent service I thought.
If you do the trip down there much it's handy to have a local sim card for your phone. They're very cheap, about 100 ringit with 50 ringit call time.

Yea might do a day of driving. I'll give a little report in the travelling section when I get back, maybe some piccies too. Cheers
Does KL have visa agents to do all the donkey work, as in Penang?
Did the visa forms get loaded as you requested. Be good to get all relevant forms for all visas stored on TD.
A one shop stop for all visa documents plus loads of advice. Gotta be a winner.
My office when I was in KL was in Empire Tower - same building as Crown Princess -
Downstairs are a couple of bars - one is/was called Breakers - good crowd and some half decent pool tables
Upstairs in the City Square Plaza ( same building ) was a sort of nightclub ,karaoke/girly place that was very popular
Twin towers and shops just a few mins away and the Thai embassy 500m !
If you stop at The Crown Princess and feel lucky - when you book in tell them you are in KL for a meeting with G.A.B.Robins- loss adjusters, on floor 43, Empire Tower, and ask for corporate rate !!
In the years I worked there they never once phoned us to check !
How long does it take in a taxi from the airport to the Thai embassy? I think I will be flying down there in August and I would like to hit the embassy the morning I land so that I can shoot off down to one of the islands the following day and be a lay-about for a week.
Also are they handing out double tourists or only single? What time does the embassy stop people coming in to apply for the visa.
By-the-way, anyone who is also thinking of doing a visa run in August, remember that Wednesday 12th is the queens birthday and they are all on holiday.
Oh, yeh, and did that form ever get uploaded?
The most amusing bar is "The Beach club"
lots to look at, good music and too many Asian girls to bother you, if you want
it is fairly near the Concorde, corner of Jalan. P. Ramlee
Yep Mr Earls spot on. Crown Princess includes a pretty good buffet (sp) breakfast in their restaurant. Easy walk to Thai Embassy. Like Mr Earl said, once you get in the gate (past the 'grumpy gaurd) after signing in, don't sit at the tables under the shelter to fill out paperwork,(have your application form 'ready filled out) but go straight to the steps in front of the glasss doors and wait till they open to get a early number. Maybe hot standing in the sun for a bit but gets you in and out real quick. Also helps heaps if you get there real early so if its a busy day you are at the front of the line that builds up on the footpath outside Mr Grumpy's pillar box.
Yep, that answers none of my questions.

They have to be taking the piss though?
Tourist Visa Required Documents Are:
- Hotel reservation in Thailand with name and dates of checking in/out
- Airline ticket or confirmation slip with flight number and date of entry/exit
The application form is even asking questions about previous overstays!
just follow the guidelines EN otherwise they will not give you a visa
Don't tell them about your ferret noodles, and don't wear your flat cap to the embassy.
