Thread: Thailand or Romania?

Well Mongolia is not the hardship place it is made out to be, with one caveat- learn even just a small amount of the lingo (it's hard!) and get local friends. It's a very open and extroverted place compared to Thailand in my experience. Thailand works for me at the moment, but most of my friends think I'll end up back in Mongolia. As for the Gulf- maybe Oman would fit me. What turns me off about places like Dubai be the lack of large parks. I had the mountains in Mongolia and it is easy enough to get to Nakhon Nayok or Kanchanaburi for a weekend here in TH. One of my hobbies is hiking- can't see a lot of that happening in Dubai unless I develop an interest in skyscraper stairwells.

Plentyb good hikes in Oman, I drove all over. The N peninsula pointing to Hormuz is in parts UAE Fujurah etc, fuel dirt cheap ,plus Kish weekends for a pilaf.

If you have a neutral passport like Ireland plenty ops in Russia or beter Iran and China, good luck youve got Thaiophilia like all of us , if you can cope with Bangkok, imagine reirement in a nice spread like our minted members with a pension so all day for rum holes sodomy and on the lash.
