Do you believe that your god put rainbows in the sky as a reminder that he would not fuck around with the climate any more and kill off all the humans and animals bar a few because they displeased him and therefore anthropogenic climate change is impossible?Originally Posted by RPETER65

Here's a bit of weather that will have global implications. At least California will be getting some rain, which will cause flooding and mudslides in areas ravaged by fire in the summer.
El Nińo is back, and global temperature records are in danger
That's the word from scientists who have been watching the tropical Pacific. Surface temperatures there are going up, winds are shifting and that could mean big weather-related changes around the world over the next year or so.
El Nińo is part of a climate cycle in the tropical Pacific known as the El Nińo Southern Oscillation; it flips back and forth every few years between the cool La Nińa and the warm El Nińo phases. In the El Nińo phase, ocean surface temperatures rise, easterly trade winds along the equator slow or even reverse and the planet in general tends to warm up.
Scientists expected El Nińo last year, but it was a no-show. But this year, American researchers reported in March that a weak El Nińo had finally set in. Now Japanese and Australian scientists say it's definitely here, and likely to be much bigger than the American predictions — with global implications.

In parts of Brazil, it could mean a lot more rain — which could be a good thing, with the capital Săo Paulo and other parts of the country in the midst of a wrenching drought. In Australia, the effect may well be the opposite: drier and hotter weather in many areas, possibly exacerbating existing water shortages.
That heating and drying out could stretch from Australia all the way around to eastern Africa and southern Asia, possibly cutting into harvests of key crops like rice, soybeans, corn and palm oil from India to China to Indonesia.
© NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory In the United States, El Nińo often brings rain to California and the South, raising hopes that a return this year would bring drought relief to the parched West Coast. That seemed unlikely when scientists identified the weak El Nińo in March, figuring it would be too small to have much of an impact. But the prospects for substantial rain could be improved with the revised forecast.
Meanwhile, the global forecast is for higher overall temperatures, quite possibly even a record.
Until last year, the hottest year on record was 1998, which saw a big El Nińo. After that, the next warmest was 2010, another El Nińo year. Last year broke both of those records by a hair, which was a bit of a surprise — and a concern to many, because it wasn't an El Nińo year.
But with the overall temperature trend sharply up — the 10 hottest years on record have all come since 1998 — scientists are anticipating that the warmth contributed by El Nińo may well bring another new global record, and perhaps put to rest the contention by climate change deniers that global temperatures have plateaued.
El Nińo is back, and global temperature records are in danger
It looks as if 2015 is on its way to take the short record of 2014 hottest year.
It’s increasingly likely that 2015 will be the hottest year on record, possibly by a wide margin.
NASA reported Wednesday that this was the hottest four-month start (January to April) of any year on record. This was also the second-warmest March on record in NASA’s dataset.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has just predicted a 90 percent chance that the El Nińo it declared in March will last through the summer and “a greater than 80 percent chance it will last through 2015.” El Nińos generally lead to global temperature records, as the short-term El Nińo warming adds to the underlying long-term global warming trend.
And in fact, with April, we have once again broken the record for the hottest 12 months on record: May 2014 – April 2015. The previous record was April 2014 – March 2015, set last month. The record before that was March 2014 – February 2015. And the equally short-lived record before that was February 2014 – January 2015.
As we keep breaking records in 2015, our headlines are going to sound like a … broken record. May has already started out hot, and it is quite likely next month we will report “The Hottest 5-Month Start Of Any Year On Record,” and that June 2014 – May 2015 will become hottest 12 months on record.
This chart (above) uses a 12-month moving average, so we can “see the march of temperature change over time,” rather than just once every calendar year, as science writer Greg Laden puts it.
The global warming trend that made 2014 the hottest calendar year on record is continuing. Some climate scientists have said it’s likely we’re witnessing the start of the long-awaited jump in global temperatures — a jump that could be as much as as 0.5°F.
April was warm across the country and most of the world. That’s clear in the NASA global map below for April temperatures, whose upper range extends to 6.9°C (12.4°F) above the 1951-1980 average.
______
and for you deniers,.here’s a little something for you to read.
Stage 3
It’s the hottest trend in climate denial. Long gone are the days when people can publicly deny that the planet is warming or that humans are responsible without facing widespread mockery. Those who oppose taking serious action to curb global warming have mostly shifted to Stage 3 in the 5 stages of climate denial.
Stage 1: Deny the problem exists
Stage 2: Deny we’re the cause
Stage 3: Deny it’s a problem
Stage 4: Deny we can solve it
Stage 5: It’s too late

Just as I thought another science denial website run by Anthony Watts who happens to be a college dropout with no background in climate science. Another fail. I dont know much about Greg Laden but I would take his word over a buffoon like Anthony Watts. His website is also funded by the heartland institute. Surprise surprise.
What planet are you living on? Do you even know any young people? (I highly doubt it) They are walking away from religion and shunning right wing politics in staggering numbers. Oh you make things to easy. The mid term election had the lowest turnout in 72 years. Everyone with a brain knows that when the turn out is low it is good for Republicans because their base is older and the most likely to vote in every election.Originally Posted by RPETER65
That is a big reason why they are so aggressive about pushing voter suppression. They want as few people to get to vote as possible.
To contrast the voter turnout in 08 was the highest in 40 years and the democrats swept all three branches of government.
The more people that vote the more likely the republitards are to lose.
Energy subsidies top $6.6 trillion, lift carbon emissions by a fifth: IMF study
The world subsidises energy consumption to the tune of more than $200,000 per second, with about 60 per cent of that going to support coal, according to researchers at the International Monetary Fund.
In a paper published by the IMF, the authors found that energy subsidies are much more than previously estimated. These will rise to $US5.3 trillion ($6.6 trillion) in 2015, or about 6.5 per cent of total global output.
For some developing nations, such as in the former Soviet Union and Pakistan, the subsidies approach 18 per cent of GDP.

Noted Climatologist BLASTS Obama over His Latest Crackpot Global Warming Claims
Barack Obama warned Coast Guard cadets that global warming was behind the rise of ISIS and Boko Haram and is causing the creation of a new ocean.
As Admiral Zukunft already mentioned, climate change means Arctic sea ice is vanishing faster than ever. By the middle of this century, Arctic summers could be essentially ice free. We’re witnessing the birth of a new ocean — new sea lanes, more shipping, more exploration, more competition for the vast natural resources below."

Joe Bastardi is a meteorologist for WeatherBell Analytics, where he provides weather forecasts for energy companies and other corporate clients. He also serves as an advisor to the American Tradition Institute and a Fox News contributor. Although he has no climate expertise, Fox regularly turns to him to analyze climate research. Bastardi, who has called manmade global warming "an obvious fraud," has often been criticized by scientists for his "utter nonsense" on climate change.
Joe Bastardi | DeSmogBlogKerry Emanual, an atmospheric scientist at MIT, spoke with Media Matters via e-mail:
“I might point out that Bastardi's background is in weather forecasting, not climate science. Asking him to comment on the science of climate change is rather like asking a country doctor to comment on the latest developments in biomedical research. The media really ought to know better.”
