OWS, Tea party- people are now looking to effect political change outside of the Beltway cocktail circuit and political party machines.
Who can blame them- your Congress is owned by special interests either masquerading as representing the people (eg AfP), or more accurately named like NRA & AIPAC. None of them represent the people- they represent special interests.

Just quietly, I rather like Rick's proposal requiring politicians to spend a certain minimum of time in the electorates they supposedly represent, and a certain maximum of time inside the capitol.
