    Re: the new Issues guidelines

Please take a few minutes to read the updated Issues guidelines. We've made some changes.

    https://teakdoor.com/issues/75949-iss...uidelines.html

Some examples- Mod's policy to pictures & Youtubes has changed, as has our tolerance for one liners. But do read the new rules, I'm not going to save you the trouble by telling all here.

We expect there will be a period of transition. Some posters are going to have to alter their habits a bit. The end result we believe, will be a better and more welcoming Issue's. Vigorous debate, a little banter, is fine- Issue's by it's very name does have a certain edge. But there is a point where banter deteriorates, and becomes slander and inanities. We've seen many Threads deteriorate this way, too many.

So please, help us in making Issue's a better, more welcoming place to be. Any questions you may have with the written guidelines and their applications, we ask that you put them here. We'd like to make the introduction of the Guidelines as open and smooth as possible.

    Fire away.

Worth a mention is the new question/complaints banner (courtesy DD) located at the bottom of the new rules, if you have any just click on the banner and send us your views.

Also worth a mention is that we have changed the rules so that racist, religious and gender-based slander directed at not only posters and in general, but also public figures is no longer acceptable.

I've just read Lars thread on the same subject of your own and I can appreciate that you guys are trying to turn TD into a more user friendly place for all levels of intelligence and maturity, it seems to be the only logical direction for TD to head.
I'm quite sure that these new rules will only add to the allure of TD, I would however have liked to have seen these two threads a week ago before all of the bad feeling and fuck off if you don't like it abuse from certain mods had occured.

But please, feel free to delete as you feel fit.
    It wasn't me!

Me too but we where busy getting things agreed upon and coordinated between different parts of the world and Thailand people on holiday and people being busy with living their lives, connections to God also had to be on the level so he didn't send us straight to hell.
So it was just not possible to get rolling before now sorry.

Like I said said I've had a bad few weeks (thread coming) so instead of spitting the dummy is it ok if I kick the living crap out of an inanimate object.
I promise not to leave a mess on the floor.

OK. I read and agree. Of course, there will be disputes over what is what, but I've yet to start a crybaby thread about them. boom! bash! whap! kechung! crack! etc. Oh, sh*t, does this mean some of the whiney-poos will be let back in?

Well as the new rules were not clearly spelt out before they were implimented then I would hope that at least some would be welcomed back if they chose to post here again.

Most lefties are not now posting in US Issues, their stomping ground, because they now know that obama is a horrible leader and the Congressional Dems are screwing up everything.

Nobody is banned or suspended from Issue's at all- we'd like it to stay that way.

Isn't this exactly the kind of trolling the new rules seek to inhibit?

We read it too Ripley, but some leeway is given here in this thread (not much though) but yes you could say it's the kind of stuff that is unnecessary to post.

This thread is about the new rules in general and not specific posts or posters they are to be reported if anyone sees a problem with a post.

We are however in a transition period and we do not expect that a miss here and there wont crop up.

Apart from that I agree that silly derogatory name-calling, also in bulk, is something posters should avoid to do, and that it will be trashed in the future.

Can you clarify what is meant by "slur'? Would this include at least minimally-reasoned but negative opinions regarding values held by a specific culture or religious group? Thumbs-up or thumbs-down on the following (assuming that they include links and citations to intelligible sources): 1.) a poster writes that Islam has aspects of misogyny and intolerance and backs it up with quotes from the Koran and examples from the Saudi legal system? 2.) discussing the opinion of comedian Bill Cosby, who stated that too many African American families prefer to spend money on expensive tennis shoes that on education? 3.) a serious discussion on the actual number of victims of the Holocaust and whether the Holocaust is currently being used for political advantage 4.) a scholarly discussion of race and IQ.

I didn't bring these examples up for detailed discussion. I would just like to know the boundaries of this new rule so I can post without fear of censorship.

(P.S. If this post disappears, then I suppose I'll have my answer, but it would be nice to have a bit of clarity on this directive. Thanks.)

^ Seems good stuff to me. The racial/slur stuff: I did add two (in quotes) in a recent post as precise examples of what one group is being accused of saying. In a case like that, I think it should be OK? Hmmm. I will refrain if it is a no go.
Issues has been quite comradely of late. No thuggish comments or miles of anti-Bush articles without a few thoughts by the adding poster. Eek. That is one peeve of mine -- can't people take out and post the poignant parts and let folks read the whole novel in the link?
TD Issues has been great when unlike minds debate without the shill. Always learn new stuff, even if I don't agree with it.

Each and every one of those is fine (well #2 is a bit trite- but illustrative of 'larger' Issue's, quite kosher). We absolutely do not want to shy away from controversial topics and opinions- heck, this is Issue's! Come and play. It is Posters that respond to Issue's like these with inanity and insults that are on the wrong side of the Mod's.

We do want issue's to be a more welcoming place, but don't confuse that with PC.

    How're we doing so far?

Sounds fair and quite reasonable to me. Thanks. (BTW, Bill Cosby is a very bright African American comedian whose comments were very carefully thought out and prompted a lot of serious discussion nation-wide. I could have filled out that example with a little more background. )

To be perfectly honest I don't see 4 as having much chance of surviving very long.
