I find it amazing that there is all of this angst regarding the Pope's quoting of this 14th Century dead guy.

When Muslims say things - which are 20 times worse - I hear excuses made for their statements of hate and Jihad.

Islam is a dysfunctional garbage can and those who follow it always blame 0thers - instead of themselves - for their problems.

    isn't that enough?

he's the fucking pope, for god's sake! (ha)

he's not exercising his right to free speech....he addressing the world as the religious leader of nearly 1 billion people. it was obviously an insensitive thing to say at a time when in history when presidents speak of 'crusades' and 'good vs evil'.

he should apologize for using the quote. he allegedly is an educated and sophisticated man....he can prove it by doing what is civil....apologize.

if/when extremist muslim clerics quote hitler and goebbels, they should apologize as well.

and i don't know if they will, would, could or might, but if 'we' (christians and jews) are so much more highly evolved than these 'ragheads who haven't done anything for civilization', isn't the onus on 'us'? (ha again)

    certainly plausible.

my question is shouldn't he be held (and hold himself} to a higher standard? after all, they're murdering kunts.
Once again we should take the high road and tolerate intolerance. We shouldn't take any chance of ever offending violent people. Bullies should set the rules by which the rest of us conduct ourselves. Academic discussion should be extinguished as not to offend the mob. People should be held to a higher standard and nothing should be expected of the mob becuase they aren't the brightest amongst us. Have you no compassion for violent idiots? In fact with ray's way of seeing things eventually the mob will bring about the downfall of the institutions he dislikes. In this case the mob serves his purpose so they get a pass.

edited: replace "the intolerable" with "intolerance"

    who's we?

it's the pope who said it. THE POPE. god's representative on earth. not cyber tough guys like you and your ilk.

you can post and say all the idiotic thing you want ( and i have to tell you you're off to a good start), but the pope should be held to a higher standard.

what the fuck are you on about?

if the catholic church is an institution so vulnerable that a handful of extremists could 'bring about its downfall', then is it really even an institution?

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post ray. Sorry but I disagree about there being any sort of standard set within an academic environment. Anything gets discussed by anyone. Even the jackasses are tolerated. The good is taken with the bad for the sake of free speech and open debate.

Tell the Muslims calling for killing and violence in response to these remarks that it's 2006.

So what you two are saying with these responses is that you are incapable of addressing the issue of Islamic intolerance.

Praise Allah and slaughter the infidel!

Your response to ray was very good attaboy. Sad to see ray reply with insults, profanity and vulgarity.

More on just how tolerant our Muslim brohers and sisters are:

"The hardline Muslims who took to burning churches this weekend in the wake of Pope Benedict's remarks supposedly linking Islam to violence seem to have proved his point. In keeping with the ludicrous over-reaction to a Danish newspaper's decision last year to publish cartoons featuring the prophet Mohammed, churches around the world have been firebombed and death threats issued."

"The irony of this row is that it is the opposite of what the Pope was trying to achieve. Benedict ended his speech by hoping for a new dialogue between the sciences, religions and cultures "which is so urgently needed today". It looks, from this miserable episode, as if you can only have a conversation that deals - however remotely - with Islam on Muslim terms. Not much of a dialogue, then."

Something more for you to chew on Ray ... you're bright enough to figure it out someday.

Excerpt Of The Day: Liberals And The War On Terror

"There's a great amount of odious liberal condescension at work here. No matter how many times Jihadists say "We are killing you because Allah commands it," liberals keep saying back, "Oh, pish-posh. We know what's really driving you -- a need for more day-care and infrastructure development."
Don't liberals believe in actually listening to the diverse narratives of oppressed peoples? Or is that just a cover for making up their own one-size-fits-all narrative and hegemonically imposing it on the world's repressed?
...(M)any liberals are convinced we cannot win this war. Or, more accurately: They are convinced we cannot win this war in a way they find morally acceptable. And for many, fighting a war is itself morally unacceptable.
Ergo, the steady drumbeat from the left that we deserved it, we actually blew up the WTC ourselves, etc. They have decided the only liberally-correct response to the War on Terror is to lose it." -- Ace

par for the course....sk makes an outrageous claim, and when he is asked to back it up, he declines and attempts to change the topic.

the only surprise is that his diversionary tactic didn't include a tired nationalistic taunt like....'i thought only the brits.....' or 'it's usually the aussies that....'

If you must know ray ... listen to the speech given my the freak show dude from Iran to the UN. Listen for the word "decadence" ... the freedoms you and most liberals profess to enjoy they HATE. The luntatic radical Muslim fundamentalist wanna cloak your fool ass in some Sharia law plain and simple.

sorry....i don't equate 'liberalism' to 'decadence'.

just because you read that type of nonsense on blogsforbush doesn't make it true.

in fact, it seems to me that republicans in 2006 are more equated to decadence than anyone else. which ethics scandal would you like to start with?
