Steady on there Norton, folks realize smoking ain't too good for your health so the majority of the population has given the smokes up.

Now, with food we got a different subect here. Perhaps down the line the government will tell folks to stop eating deer meat because poor little bamby is in danger?

    Where does it stop, eh?

You gonna let somebody else tell you what you can or can't eat?

...might as well let ISIs tell you how you can conduct your life too, eh?
I didn't say I condone it, just that I can see their motive.

I've been reading this thread from the start. All I can conclude so far is that the world has gone to nannystate hell because of mental cases like you .

So you don't think the manufacturers have a vested interest in the viability of their products?

I am going to laugh my ass off when violent attacks against the nannystate become the norm. Like the one in Norway.

You are missing the point, dear.

The government was never intended to supplement the decisions made by a free people to chose whatever path they proceed upon.

The more government intrudes upon ones's life, the more they become dependent upon it.
Then quit using the roads, dependent one. Or the water and sewer systems, your healthcare (heard you got Obamacare), relying on the courts to settle disputes, etc. Please send the address of the new cave you will be living in so I can be sure to avoid it.
Ok Stalin. You are so entrenched in socialism that you can't even fathom a place being run mostly by private enterprise . Including roads and healthcare .

Believe if you look back it was more likely the medical community rather than Big Brother making the pronouncement.

Nanny State Authoritarians Now Dictating Restaurant Menus

As goes California, so goes nation. That is not good news for anyone who wants to live in a free country. Now the bureauweenies running the city of Davis are dictating restaurant menus:

In what it’s calling an effort to encourage healthier options for children, Davis will require all restaurants in the city to offer milk or water as the first choice for all children’s meals.

An ordinance was passed by the City Council unanimously on Tuesday night, the Sacramento Bee reports.

Further restrictions will be required after vegans and animal rights activists who regard milking cows as exploitation lobby to get milk taken off the menu.

When Big Government can draw up restaurant menus, it has insinuated itself so deeply into every aspect of our lives that it can do most anything it pleases, leaving us at the mercy of officious tyrants and the wacky interest groups that tell them what to impose.

Are you that daft ? Warren Buffet himself admitted that he would have been bankrupt if there was no government administered bailout in 2008. There has been no capitalism in the US for the last 20 years. Not since the LTCM bailout in 1998 anyway.

Future Cars Won’t Start if They Smell Alcohol

In the brave new world of total nanny state control, designated drivers will be obsolete, because cars won’t start if they can smell alcohol:

The Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety is “a research partnership between the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and an industry consortium to develop technology to prevent alcohol-impaired drivers from operating their vehicles while under the influence,” according to a DADSS press release.

Two prototypes were displayed Thursday during a press event at the Department of Transportation. The breath-based system pulls the driver’s breath into a sensor where a beam of infrared light is directed at molecules in the breath. The sensor can compare carbon dioxide and alcohol molecules, and if the alcohol molecules are above a certain proportion of carbon dioxide, the vehicle won’t start. …

“The alcohol detection system will measure the alcohol in a driver’s blood in less than a second. If it is above .08, the legal limit in all 50 states, the vehicle won’t move,” the technology overview video says. “For drivers under 21, for whom any amount of blood alcohol is illegal, the system can be programmed for a zero-tolerance policy.”
