Scenes From Gun Fest 'Meyr'ca Style

    Scenes From the Real America

By David Weigel 4/6/09 10:54 AM

I spent Saturday at the bi-annual Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot, right outside of Louisville, Ky. Gun enthusiasts of all stripes were there — from the National Rifle Association and sportsmen to militia members to white supremacists and Obama birthers. Here’s a collection of choice photos from the show (after the jump):

Above you’ll see the view of the main attraction—a range of metal cans, cars, and a refrigerator being shot at by dozens of military grade weapons.

The view from the other side.

Some of the better merchandise from the exhibit tens. This one says “Prepare for Obama’s Citizen Army (ACORN + Nation of Islam)”

T.P.S. (Utz) is a vendor of weapon and survivalist handbooks which also sells The Anarchist Cookbook and “Hit Man,” a guide to assassination.

Minnesota’s Oak Grove Arms was selling these T-shirts.

Selling a scimitar inside the exhibitors’ tent.

The Nazi merchandise table was notably quiet, and seller Mark Stevens told me that business was slow. But classic German designs were fairly popular with attendees. For example:

    Also:

    And also:

Sadly, I couldn’t open the plastic to read the book.

The Obama Birthers were here, at one table located near the NRA’s booth, getting a mix of receptive conversations and brush-offs. Here’s Carl Swensson of RiseUpAmerica, who has started a Citizen Jury to indict President Obama.

The Birthers had two sets of petitions, one just for members (or retired members) of the military who wanted to join Orly Taitz’s legal actions against Obama. Taitz is the blonde woman with the pink nametag, obscured slightly by Theresa Padget, the woman in the sweatshirt.

    Some good deals on ammo.

The high cost of shooting a machine gun. Spending 75 rounds from an AK-47 would run you $120.

    The results!

A pre-WWI maxim gun, displayed by Kent and Kathy Lomont of Idaho, affixed with the infamous Sean Delonas cartoon. The Lomonts declined to explain what the cartoon meant.

The sellers of this T-shirt reported that all three boxes of it had sold out by 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The vast majority of T-shirts were, of course, much more innocuous.

So anyway, what is supposed to be so bad about whats going on in this OP?
I can only see that people are doing what they want to do, what should they be doing?
Freedom of choice is exactly, and freedom of speech is exactly that, I get no thrill of firing full auto weapons, but some have never done it and it is a good experience if you want to do it.
I go more for long range target competition, have always like accuracy shooting more than full auto, thats the reason that some guns I have bought new at very high prices are single shot bull guns, I even shot my Mdl 52 Winchester 22 Bull gun as a single shot when shooting gallery ranges.
I am sure glad that Musty posted this to show just how much freedom Americans do have to live the life that they want, I do suppose that was her intent.

and one can only assume his hands are cold....unless, of course, he's in a much warmer locale.

Just following in HPs proven business model. Give away or very cheap printers but the ink refills will break the bank.

The ballistic co-efficiency of cast lead bullets is quite low and they are only good for very slow target loads and they will lead your bore and it is a bitch to get out.

How do you do the depleted uranium stuff?
Be kind of spendy for .308/7.62 stuff I would think.

I hear they got tons of it just lying around now in Iraq - some spent rounds some not. Might prove difficult to get thru customs though.

Weird scene alright. Some of the firepower in the hands of private gun enthusiasts in the US I find pretty amazing, as a foreigner. No question where their political affiliations lie for that matter. Just a question- is it unheard of in the US to be a gun nut and a Democrat? and why are they so scared of Obama?

It's one of these sort of 'kooky' days out in the US that i just know i'd have a great time at. Wish I was there. Not that I'd fire any auto weapons, just hang out and enjoy it. Shame Borat wasn't there too.

I think disarming the US citizenry is a pipe dream. It's not the same as restricting access to gun ownership in other Western countries- too late, the US is already armed. John Wayne, cowboys & Indians, dirty Harry and stuff.

Such attempts as can feasibly be made towards gun control would involve licensing and registration of firearms. It's a bit disconcerting to think that 'Scarface' could have every one of those weapons and more in his arsenal, incognito.

All right, you smartypants, but lead is better than nuthin'. He only used it to make bullets for target practice. That's all I'd use it for. Just line up a row of libbies and take aim.

And the Medusa again demonstrates utter lack of any kind of intelligent or reasonable argument, so- as the Right Wing Nutters will do, resorts to murder.
