    2012 Theories

4 years. There has been quite an interest regarding the prophecies and speculative theories of this year. Is the end near? The most studiuous tend to focus upon the long-historied Mayan Calendar and it's parculiar phrophecies. But interesting enough, beyond the Mayan theories, there are some very intrical and interlinking historic texts and prophecies that historic allign with one another. This 2012 thing....from the Mayan to the Chinese I Ching. From Vedic theories to Sumarian doomsday philosophical charts. Some even mark Nostradamus' chronicles to be equally worthy. Where do you think we will be in 2012?

That's what I was thinking. Nothing different.......just wanted to see if there was anyone out there that could share their take on these things.

Oh, right, end of the world.

Yep, lots of corroborating evidence -- sadly enough we've had a couple of thousand 'end of the world' dates so far over the course of human history, all of which have passed without so much as a whimper.

    (yawn)

If you want to talk 'end of the world', look ahead roughly 5-6 billion years, and get back to me.

(scripts, I tell you, they all follow the same scripts...)

Maybe another cult will spring up, based on the inexorable 'proof' that the world will end, yet again, in 2012. And commit mass suicide by drinking the Kool Ade. True believers, do feel free to join it.

But I'm afraid the Almighty Smiter works on Thai time when it comes to keeping human appointments.

Whens the deadline for the latest another Thai election can be held?
If those defectors swing over to the Dems, they might be wishing they hadn't by then.

On the world scale I sure hope things have sorted themselves out by then. But 2012 is only just over 3 years away. These next 3 years are going to be a big adjustment in the distribution of world wealth and countries like USA and UK that borrow more than they earn will have to come down a peg or two.

I think the Mayans will be OK. Probably just keep going like they have for the past few hundred years.

Anyone seriously into this stuff should study Terrence McKenna. McKenna developed a theory called Timewave Zero based on his own software that incorporated the I-Ching and Mayan calendars. McKenna's timeline comes to an end on 12/21/2012. Not necessarily believing in doomsday, McKenna simply felt that some major event would profoundly change human history. McKenna even tried to put a positive spin on his prediction, suggesting that time could lose its importance, possibly due to a scientific development regarding nonlinear time and the implications for time travel. When I heard McKenna speak in Boulder, Colorado, he struck me as an intelligent, witty and very original thinker (he died tragically of cancer several years later). Personally, I'm not prepared to accept such an outlandish theory. But given that it comes from a man as brilliant as McKenna, I'm not quite as dismissive as I used to be.

The following History Channel video gives a short summary of McKenna's theory:

About 2:50 minutes into the following video is a good interview with McKenna giving a little more detail of his Timewave Zero theory:
