Two sides of the same coin, one is bad the other good?

The following is a quite interesting, yes it has a certain bias to it, look at how perceptions are set:

    * If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're 'exotic, different.'
    * Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.

    * If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
    * Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

    * Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.
    * Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

    * If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.
    * If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with fewer than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive and next in line behind a man in his eighth decade.

    * If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.
    * If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and then you're a true Christian.

    * If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
    * If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

    * If your wife is a Harvard graduate laywer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.
    * If your husband is nicknamed 'First Dude', with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable."

Where did BO, as a poor black son of divorced parents, get the money for a yearlong 'round the world trip while he was at (his first) college?

    I'm jealous.

^ Maybe he got the money in the same way a poor white son of divorced parents would get it. Woking perhaps, or working whilst travelling?
Maybe he robbed a 7-11 before he left? he is black after all

That's a lot of money for a poor college kid -- who was presumably paying his tuition simultaneously. I'm not suggesting anything nefarious, just wonder how he could manage it.

That's an obfuscation/shifting-of-the-posts of Jetesque proportions. What is it, catching amongst you right-wingers or something!?

Nope. Just a question. Have you read anything that might indicate an answer?

A yearlong round the world trip while at college.

Nope, not a clue. Start a thread on it Tex, the facts must be uncovered! We must get to the bottom of this mysterious round-the-world trip!

And on second thoughts it does fit in to panama's OP also:

    * If your name is Barack and you take a round-the-world trip the suspicions are raised and questions asked.
    * If your name is Sarah and you've only just recently even gotten a passport it's ok because you live in Alsaka which is nearby Russia so this makes you an expert in foreign policy.

W/regard to the two sides...BO seems to have a 'past' that he has not shared with everyone:

Over atPolitically Drunk on Power: In June sources released information that during his campaign for the State Senate in Illinois, Barack Obama was endorsed by an organization known as the Chicago "New Party". The 'New Party' was a political party established by the Democratic Socialists of America (the DSA) to push forth the socialist principles of the DSA by focusing on winnable elections at a local level and spreading the Socialist movement upwards...

..."New Party members and supported candidates won 16 of 23 races, including an at-large race for the Little Rock, Ark., City Council, a seat on the county board for Little Rock and the school board for Prince George's County, Md. Chicago is sending the first New Party member to Congress, as Danny Davis, who ran as a Democrat, won an overwhelming 85% victory. New Party member Barack Obama was uncontested for a State Senate seat from Chicago."
    ...

    ************************************
    ...

Obama signed a declaration to adhere to their principles and got the endorsement of the "New Party", the political party arm of the Democratic Socialists of America, : which is the largest component member of the Socialist International, the successor organization to the Second Communist International, which manifested its vision in the Bolshevik Soviet Revolution led by Vladimir Lenin.
    ...
The meaning of this is quite clear, according to records on their own website, Obama ran in the Illinois Senate primary as the endorsed candidate of the local arm of an international communist organization. Does this not make it clear why Obama went to Bill Ayers for his political coming out party? Ayers and Dohrn are heroes of the international communist movement and active in the Democratic Socialists of America. Obama is literally joined at the hip to Bill Ayers via the Chicago chapter of the DSA.:

This guy is not as beign as y'all make him out to be. In fact, this cat is very dangerous...

^ Whilst that all sounds like more cock dreamt up by right-wing bloggers, I was interested to have a look at the Socialist Party website. Their blurb runs:

We share a vision of a humane international social order based both on democratic planning and market mechanisms to achieve equitable distribution of resources, meaningful work, a healthy environment, sustainable growth, gender and racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships.

Good heavens! Sounds positively Scandinavian, doesn't it? Dangerous indeed.

I think after 8 years of the disastrous Bush administration, America is ready to give another Democrat a go. Most voters still remember the Clinton years, quite fondly in retrospect.

I think America will decide what it's ready for.

Just watch. And take solace in the fact that your opinion amounted to zilch.

And we'll let you go about electing your leaders as you see fit. And very few will stick their noses in -- pretending to be informed or interested ...

    Good luck.

For some reason Obama's records at Columbia and Harvard are unavailable. I'd like to see his grades and I'd like to know which clubs he joined. He did play chess as a kid. Maybe he joined the chess club.

Heh, I can't recount where I read it, but do you know that Obama even has a small lead amongst serving US Military personnel Tex? Now thats unusual.

I will also take solace from the fact that the opinion of an embittered expat living somewhere outside Nakhon Nowhere amounted to zilch.

Good question. We can rule out Obama traveled in his wife's private jet though.

True, it's called 'Freedom of Speech' for our American friends.

Although to be fair the US does have a long and storied history of directly influencing elections and governments in other nations. Whether this is by CIA backed oustings of democratically elected leaders and installing puppet governments or otherwise.

I'd have to side with Texpat on this one and question how a black kid had enough money for that . . . they don't like working so I'd have to go with 7/11 break-ins . . . no alternative.

Could he have used Palin's or McCain's planes?

Loads of kids save some money and go off and see the world, at least in Australia. Travelling on a budget isn't hard- in fact it's become quite a big industry. Considering his trip involved staying at a friends place in Pakistan, and Indonesia- both cheap as chips- I doubt he would have had to sell much Crack to finance his trip.

When the best the right-wing moonbats on here is to take their cue from blogs and demand details and searching questions of a trip that a Presidential candidate took as a college student you know things are getting desperate. No policies, no fundamental questions, no relevance.

I love the smell of desperation in the morning, smells like...victory.

Promise? Because your country's track record on that one's not, shall we say, the best. Only two months ago, the Americans were busy fermenting revolt against the democratically elected Evo Morales who, fool that he is, had the stupid idea that Bolivia was a soverign nation and that that nation's wealth should be used for the betterment of the Bolivian people, not the betterment of US stockholders. You see, it's all very simple - the world has an interest in American politics because America has an interest in the world. If your nation proposed a divorce, it would not be contested.
