    OIL: A Resource!

Resource is defined as, “ The total means available for economic and political development, such as mineral wealth, labor force, and armaments”

Another definition is, “An available supply that can be drawn on when needed”.

And it is a, verifiable and commonly known, fact that the West needs resources to maintain and further expand its economy. There are many types of resources , for example, Human resources, Financial resources and Natural resources. Human and Financial resources are abundant in the west and it is safe to say that they are almost self-sufficient.

Natural resource also has its own types, like land, Gold, Copper, Uranium, Zinc, Lead, etc etc but the one that I am concerned and the one that is driving the world to the edge of an all out war is, OIL. Oil, to the West, is a natural resource unlike any other because of its shortage and their economic dependency. Among the Western countries, America, stands at number in oil consumption and consumes 20,730,000 bbl/daywhich shows its dependency.

Most of the 20th was spent in hatred between the West and the Communists i.e, USSR. We witnessed developments of the deadliest bombs by the two big powers during the period between 1960s and 1980s. The West’s obsession with Democracy and the Communist ideology literally divided the world. Both powers are fully aware the results of an all out war between them so they fought and are fighting their wars on foreign grounds, like Viet Nam War and the Afghan War in the past. Both economies depend on Oil and are always at war in the field of resources.

It is also a, verifiable and commonly known, fact that most of the world’s known Oil reserves are in the Middle East, mainly Saudi Arabia . The relations between the U.S and the Saudi Monarchs (more of a dictators) is one that is based on the Western dependency on Oil ad the Saudi abundance of Oil. The Saudi monarchs are notorious for their crimes and human rights violations.A country where there are closed trials and the offenders are punished in one the most inhumane ways. Women can not vote, drive, date or even go evening walk in the park alone. They are always covered in black from head to toe and are not allowed to show their faces in a country where the normal temperature in day time is 52 degree Celsius. Such things are alien and horrendous crimes against women in the West and those who commit such acts are simply known as barbaric. Yet we see western leaders Kissing and shaking hands of the Saudi kings. Not only that, the ties between the U.S and Saudi is before even there was any Saudi kingdom. In fact the U.S is almost half responsible for the creation of that particular Kingdom during late 1920s and has been saved many times by the U.S. The U.S fully realized the extent of its need and dependency on the Middle Eastern Oil during the Arab Oil Embargo in 1973 when the Oil Producing Arab countries closed its oil taps for the allies of Israel. Oil prices soared with-in days almost crippling the U.S economy. Saudi kings are known Wahabis, a sect of Islam founded by Muhammed Abd-Al Wahab in the 18th century. Wahabis consider both Shias and Sunnis as Non-Muslims and want to turn the clock 1400 back. They support banned extremist groups like Lashkar e Jhangvi and Sipah e Shaba in Pakistan. I have personally witnessed two attacks by the Jhangvi group on Shia minorities in Pakistan. They gunned down 65 people and injuring many on July 4, 2004. The 9/11 hi-jackers were all from Saudi and Osama bin Laden, America’s most wanted man is also a Saudi. His family business relation with the Bush family is well known and for the very reason his family was provided with a special jet for transportation outside the U.S after 9/11, when America was a no fly zone for 2 weeks. Normally when a person commits a crime, the police first interrogates his family and close ones but not this time.

I think it is time for the American people to realize what their foreign policies are oing to the people of this world. Supporting tin pot dictators, monarchs and leaders only creates hatred for the westerners. The U.S should do Business fairly and should respect the very laws it defends so vigorously, other wise the future is going to be very dark, in my opinion.

I think you are being simplistic and naive. The US has been behaving as a colonial power for years and will not change to suit people with opinions like yours

Yes, but if they did that, they'd all be broke and the great American public wouldn't be able to spend money borrowed from the Chinese on iPhones. And when children don't get what they want.....
