Politico's Jeanne Cummings is reporting that the Republican National Committee "appears to have spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August.

According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.

The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September."

The McCain-Palin campaign didn't comment, but if campaign officials change their minds we shall be happy to update.

You hear it on the campaign trail everywhere, but now a NBC/Wall Street Journal poll appears to confirm it. No longer a net asset to the Republican ticket, Sarah Palin may in fact be weighing John McCain down.

Those voters crucial to the final outcome n the undecideds and independents - don't quite like her, think her selection was cynical and political and cannot imagine her ever being president. And to make matters worse, details emerged yesterday of the Republican Party splurging $150,000 (NZD$253,000) since Mrs Palin became Mr McCain's running-mate to revamp her wardrobe.

Lipstick and Armani on a hockey mum sounds fine, but at that kind of cost? After "troopergate" in Alaska, another mini-scandal attached to Mrs Palin is not what is needed. The Republican Party did not dispute the wardrobe findings of the US website Politico, moreover.

By perusing the campaign's financial disclosures for September, the site found that Mrs Palin's fashion expenditure included almost $50,000 doled out at branches of Saks Fifth Avenue in St Louis and New York, as well as more than $75,000 on clothes at high-end Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, the host city for the Republican Convention. "With all of the important issues facing the country right now, it's remarkable that we're spending time talking about pantsuits and blouses," said a Palin spokeswoman, Tracey Schmitt. "It was always the intent that the clothing goes to a charitable purpose after the campaign.
So she must stay within the image the left wishes. She must attend meetings with the President of France dressed in the clothes she purchased in Wasilia, Alaska.

This sounds like more Saul Alinsky Rules for Radicals strategy. Define your enemy and then attack the traits you ascribe to them. I got to remember this Alinsky stuff and use it too. I bet Rove has read Alinsky. I know Obama has mentioned Alinsky. I'm sure Clinton has read Alinsky. Alinsky's non-profit organization offered Hillary Clinton a job when she graduated.

Good, now that you've learnt what it is perhaps you can refrain from constantly employing such a transparent logical fallacy.

Not at all. To hear atta tell it Saul Alinsky is required - if not actually compulsory - reading for all Democrats and a noted Democrat strategist (although explaining quite where and how this is the case seems to be unimportant).

Having defined Alinsky thusly atta is then ascribing his arguments to others in general - including, ironically enough, the use of the strawman logical fallacy - and judging them on it. A double-strawman if you will.

Saul Alinsky - some credit him with giving rise to the concept of 'community organiser'.

Atta's trying mightly to portray him as a Democrat political strategist of note (in the absence of, well, any evidence at all really) and interprets his works as being "purposely instigative of chaos and misery" which is then something he has ascribed to Democrats/Liberals/The Left in general. Basically an attempt at the Obama-Ayers guilt-by-association gig writ large.

Saul Alinsky was an activist in the 1960s and earlier. He's been dead for quite some time.

Democrats today do not know who he is.

Hillary Clinton wrote her 90 page BA thesis on him and his beliefs and techniques.

Alinsky was from a different era.

Why is he discussed now, so many decades later?

Halloween Palin Prop Sparks Controversy In WeHo WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP) ― A Halloween decoration showing a mannequin dressed as vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin hanging by a noose from the roof of a West Hollywood home is drawing giggles from some passers-by and gasps of outrage from others.

The mannequin is dressed in brunet wig, glasses and a red business suit. Another mannequin dressed as John McCain emerges from a flaming chimney.

The owner of the house would be jailed if it were a black effigy hanging from the noose.

If it's only a white VP candidate, it's all fun and games.

I don't think its Palin, for a doll to be palin like it would need to be dressed in a Ł150000 doller coat it looks more like a yard sale.

The effigy is unacceptable, despite being called part of a Halloween set-up.

If you'll plaster that over many threads then why not this as well:

US stops Barack Obama assassination attempt

Two white supremacists have been charged with threatening to kill Democrat Barack Obama during a "killing spree" of some 100 African-Americans, officials said on Monday.
The two men planned to kill some 88 people and decapitate 14 African-Americans, before in a final act assassinating Obama, bidding to be the country's first black president, court documents revealed.
The men, Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tennessee, and Paul Schlesselman, 18, of Helena-West Helena, Arkansas, are being held in custody.
The pair were arrested last Wednesday in Tennessee on possession of firearms, threats against a candidate running for president and conspiring to rob a gun store, the Department of Justice said.
The men began "discussing going on a 'killing spree' that included killing 88 people and beheading 14 African Americans", Brian Weaks, an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives told a Memphis court today.
"They further stated that their final act of violence would be to attempt to kill/assassinate presidential candidate Barack Obama,'' he added, as the two men appeared before the federal court.
The Obama campaign declined to comment on the case.
Cowart, from Bells, Tennessee, and Schlesselman, from Arkansas, met via the internet a month ago and have "very strong beliefs and views regarding 'White Power' and 'Skinhead' views", Weaks told the court.
Cowart had bought one rifle and stockpiled two handguns, both stolen from his grandfather. Schlesselman also had a short-barrelled shotgun and a revolver which he said he had taken from his father without permission.
The pair planned to steal another high-powered rifle from a gun store in Jackson, Tennessee, as well as a series of robberies to finance their bloody plan.
"Schlesselman stated that they planned to drive their vehicles as fast as they could toward Obama shooting at him from the windows," Weaks said.
"Both individuals stated they would dress in all white tuxedos and wear top hats during the assassination attempt. Both individuals further stated they knew they would and were willing to die during this attempt."
Acting US Attorney for western district of Tennessee, Lawrence Laurenzi, said: "The allegations set forth in this criminal complaint are serious and will be treated as such.
"The public can rest assured that federal, state, and local law enforcement are diligently working together to investigate and prosecute the alleged activity," he added in a statement.

The two men will appear back in the Memphis federal court on Thursday.
Obama is already under secret service protection having received it much earlier in the campaign than any other presidential candidate.

In late August, it was revealed three men were arrested with a weapons cache in Denver, Colorado where the party convention was being held.
US lawyers later said there had been no credible threat against Obama.
The Memphis court was told that just before their arrest Cowart and Schlesselman had bought food, nylon rope and ski masks.
They also shot out the window of a local church in Brownsville, Tennessee, before driving back to Cowart's grandfather's home where they chalked racist words and symbols, including a Swastika and the numbers 14 and 88 onto the hood of Cowart's car, before being arrested.
Helena-West Helena, on the Mississippi River in east Arkansas' Delta, is in one of the nation's poorest regions.
Police Chief Fred Fielder said he had never heard of Schlesselman.
However, the reported threat of attacking a school filled with black students worried Fielder. Helena-West Helena, with a population of 12,200, is 66 per cent black.
"Predominantly black school, take your pick," he said.

The sad thing is that the effigy is a bad 'joke' and this shit is real, and if you try to correlate the two you are quite a sad person.

    Glenn Beck endorses...

...and I couldn't have said it better myself...heh

    I'm endorsing Sarah Palin.”

“My hope is in Sarah Palin. Here's why. A lot of people will say, oh, she's too inexperienced. Yep, yep, she doesn't have a lot of experience in Washington. She doesn't have a lot of experience in being a community organizer.

She doesn't have a lot of experience in the Senate. She certainly doesn't have a lot of experience sitting there and playing the Washington game. She may not know the names of every leader in every country. She may not know all of the things that she needs to know right now on absolutely anything that could possibly happen, but she will. She's a smart woman.

I would trust you in the Oval Office more than Barack Obama.

I believe in the American people. I would trust a farmer in the office of the President of the United States much more than I would John McCain. I believe in the American people. I don't believe in the individual. And I believe that there needs to be somebody that is listening to the American people, somebody who isn't so far removed with academia and lawyering and posturing and political handlers and community organizing groups.

We need somebody who is a reflection of you, not a bogus reflection of you that talks about talking to people in diners that have been closed for 15 years and is Joe Six-Pack because he pays $90 one way to get to work on an Amtrak train. That isn't the subway, Joe. I hate to break it to ya."

^^ If true, this is another dumb statement by Glenn Beck.

Beck is an entertainer who talks about politics and economics on TV.

His job is to get ratings. His shows are very shallow and don't delve deeply into issues. Once in a while his show will be insightful. But not often.

He also has the typical spin doctors for Advocacy Groups on both sides of the spectrum. From the Cato Institute to the Brookings Foundation.

Beck is using a common trick used today by info-entertainers: he claims to be an "indpendent." But he's not.

By claiming to be an independent he can attract more viewers, IMO.

As for Palin: being ignorant, not understand how health care works, and not knowing much about the world, means that her advisors would have enormous influence on her perceptions and more importantly, her policies.

Glenn Beck's show is for the dummies. He dumbs it down for them. If he didn't they click the remote-control and watch another TV channel.

    Palin faces new ethics complaint

A new ethics complaint has been filed against Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, accusing the Alaska governor of abusing her power by charging the state when her children travelled with her.

The complaint alleges that Palin used her official position as governor for personal gain. It follows a report by The Associated Press last week that she charged the state more than $US21,000 ($A31,000) for her three daughters' commercial flights, including events where they weren't invited, and later ordered their expense forms amended to specify official state business.

In some cases, Palin also has charged the state for hotel rooms for the girls.
The complaint released on Wednesday says Palin charged the travel costs for events her children were not invited to and where they served no legitimate state purpose or business.

"Governor Palin intentionally secured unwarranted benefits for family members, improperly used state property to benefit her personal and financial interests, and illegally altered documents that were the subject of a Public Records request," the complaint states.
