    Crap!! Never thought of that. Five votes for the GOP ticket could well be the decider.

    For a leftie, that post is really nasty.
    She's married to a man of Inuit descent; they do nature and cultural names. So, you against having kids? And probably figure she should have aborted the last child when it was diagnosed in the womb as having Down's. Boy. You lefties appall me -- free rights and handouts for lazy folks, but criticism of folks who want kids and are fully ready and willing to raise and support them.
    Yep. people born and raised in the North (as was I) learn to hunt, trap, fish, etc. Know why? COZ WE USE IT FOR FOOD; not like you pansies who get their meat in little styrofoam containers at the supermarket. ray would probably faint if he had to gut and skin an animal for his dinner. And, it's almost impossible to be a veggie up north unless you live off tinned food and it's too bladdy cold in the winter -- you need animal protein. These folks use all parts of the animal, too (true, we get hunters from down south who hunt for the sport; our families never did).

    Palin's a wild card. McC looked pretty nervous standing beside her as she gave her intro (watch his hand gestures) -- "I first joined the PTA..." Uh oh. This is going to be a truckload of popcorn show.
    And yep, McC trumped BO's acceptance speech fever by announcing her.
    MSNBC can't get enough of their guffaws over this mountain woman. I wouldn't doubt her ability and drive tho. Rachel Maddow better check her facts on Palin's voting on the bridge to nowhere tho; Rachel just spouts libbie rhetoric and is starting to get up my nose.

    Yah he made some pretty nasty comments about nominees with disabilities too, FDR not withstanding (convenient memory). I had written a nice retort but just as I went to send it my Internet crashed (TIT) and I lost 15 minutes worth answers as it was also directed at a couple of other remarks too from other posters..So I didn't bother to repost it.. Quite the hypocrite this one is..

    Dear Joe Six Pack Public,

    Iraq never attacked the US. You were actually safer from an attack by any Iraqis before you invaded their country. Your theory doesn't hold water; are you going to invade every nation on the face of the planet to protect yourselves in the US.

    Yours,

    A. Citizen

    This supposes logic instead of emotion...Which one would you say most likely encompasses the preponderance of female voters?

    But not an American Citizen, therefore you are just a long-distance spectator and your opinion will have zilch impact on the election. It is the AMERICAN Presidental election, and what left-learning kiwis think is of little importance.

    But then again, my opinion of NZ politics is not important either, so I don't waste my time endlessly discussing it. It is up to you Kiwis to decide your own government, Americans have the same right.

    ^^Despite your prolific use of the sarchasm smilie it's becoming pretty clear you don't actually understand the concept, DF.

    So tell yourself my post was pointless after having grabbed the wrong-end of the stick and made yourself look a bit silly if that helps you feel better.

    Let's just recap shall we...

    1. DF comes in and totally misinterprets a post I made to someone else;
    2. DF has this pointed out to him;
    3. DF goes on the offensive, probably embarrassed, and claims the post was pointless anyway;
    4. DF proudly displays his ignorance;
    5. DF unilaterally proclaims himself the 'winner';
    5a. Rinse & Repeat.

    Best you quit while you're behind.

    What the Alaska media is saying about Sarah Palin

    While the media, pundits, insiders and know-it-alls continue to blab endlessly about the pros and cons of new McCain running mate Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, there is a fair amount of blabbering going on up in Palin’s home state as well.

    Surprised, shocked and stunned seem to be words thrown about most often in describing first reactions to hearing the news. In fact, Alaska’s Attorney General compared it to landing on the moon. Not Palin landing on the moon. Although if it polled well - and chances are the McCain team has already polled it - she’d be giving her speech next week from orbit.

    Anchorage daily News- McCain’s choice of Palin was somewhat surprising because she most definitely is not a standard-issue Republican. She worked with liberal Democrats in the Legislature to pass a multi-billion-dollar tax increase on Alaska’s oil industry. She went back to Democrats again to win approval of her natural gas pipeline deal, which bypasses Alaska’s major oil companies in favor of a Canadian company.
    In fact, Palin is almost totally alienated from the Republican Party establishment here. She tried and failed to get rid of ethically compromised party Chair Randy Ruedrich; they’re not on speaking terms. In the August primary, Palin urged fellow Republicans to desert long-time Congressman Don Young in favor of her inexperienced and uninspiring lieutenant governor, Sean Parnell.

    Fairbanks Daily News-Miner

    Most people would acknowledge that, regardless of her charm and good intentions, Palin is not ready for the top job. McCain seems to have put his political interests ahead of the nation’s when he created the possibility that she might fill it.
    It’s clear that McCain picked Palin for reasons of image, not substance. She’s a woman. She has fought corruption. She has fought the oil companies. She’s married to a union member. These are portrayals for campaign speeches; they are not policy positions.

    Juneau Empire
    In a few short years, Sarah Palin moved from small-town mayor with a taste for mooseburgers to the governor’s office and now - making history - to John McCain’s side as the first female running mate on a Republican presidential ticket.
    She has more experience catching fish than dealing with foreign policy or national affairs. Talk about a rocketing ascent.

    Ketchikan Daily News
    Selecting Palin is a maverick move for McCain who isn’t known for lockstep marching with his own party. But Palin herself doesn’t march to the drum of anyone but Palin. She is a servant to what she believes in.
    She believes in God and family and heralds her simple roots in Alaska. Raised in small towns by a teacher and a school secretary, she married young and had five children, the latest of whom was born in the spring with Down syndrome. Religious conservatives will welcome her anti-abortion stand.

    Kodiak Daily Mirror
    Like so many Alaskans, I heard the news about Palin first thing in the morning, and wondered what crazy world I had woken up to. I also finally realized Lehrer wasn’t joking.
    McCain pulled a stunt today, the kind I thought American politics had gotten past.
    To me it looks like McCain, a politician I have long admired, chose Palin just to have a woman on the ticket.

    it seems some of the most strident criticism is from her Home state.

    Seems at least some donors like the Palin pick:

    McCain Gets $7 Million Bounce from Palin Pick | The Trail | washingtonpost.com

    Sen. John McCain has taken in $7 million in contributions since announcing Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, a top campaign aide said today.

    The money bounce may owe to Palin's appeal with conservative donors, many of whom said privately they had planned on sitting out the campaign this year. The money comes in just under the wire -- after McCain accepts the GOP nomination Thursday, he will accept public funds and no longer be permitted to raise private money for the campaign.

    mccain, who repeatedly pronounces that he 'puts country first', has exposed himself as just another cynical, calculating politician who will do anything to win..even if it means putting the country at risk.

    if he were indeed putting 'country first' there is no way he would have chosen her.

    for all his faults, at least romney knows something about business.
    for all his faults, at least ridge knows something about securing the borders.
    for all his faults, at least lieberman know something about how the federal govt. works, and can work across the aisle.

    palin offers none of these things.

    instead of choosing someone who could actually help the country in this difficult period, the GOP is about to nominate the mccain/gimmick ticket at their convention.

    she has no foreign policy experience, and is even less knowledgeable on the economy than he is.

    country first? hardly.
    it's mccain's political ambition which is first....make no mistake.
