    Do you Hate America

There are a lot of accusations thrown around the issues forum that a lot of posters hate america.

I for one don't and i'm interested to learn exactly how many people do.
I don't agree with some of their methods or policies but that doesn't mean that i hate America and everything American

The question and poll seems like and over-generalization. Oversimplified.

    ^ Agreed.

I am embarrassed by aspects of US culture, politics and foreign policy.

I am optimistic that an Obama presidency would result in less embarrassment than the last 8 years have created.

The term "America" means different things to different people. Not necessarily political, either. Oversimplified.

I prefer not to use the term America.

In my view, open and honest criticism of the USA is an obligation of all it's citizens.

I hate the loss of constitutionally protected rights.

I hate that my country tortures people.

I hate the foreign policy myopia.

I hate the sense of entitlement many US citizen's have.

    I hate the selfishness.

Couldn't agree more with that statement. Shouting down criticisms, particularly of a Govt. and their actions, with charges of it being unpatriotic or un[insert country here] is basically the 'adult' version of that thing little kinds do where they stick their fingers in their ears and go: 'Nyah, nyah, nyah I can't hear you!'.

Refusing to question or criticise on the basis that it's 'not the patriotic thing to do' is not only incredibly naive but it's also not actually patriotic - it's something more akin to feverent nationalism.

That is quite funny. But like most good jokes it's based on an illogical premise.

Obama's tax polices are set to benefit the majority of tax payers, the vast majority (in contrast to McCain's that will benefit other rich guys like him - so no change there then).

^How so? I can't recall the specifics right now - posted a link to it whiles back - but in principle he will reduce taxes for the poor-to-middle-class, and increase those to the rich and big business. In effect rectifying an imbalance that already exists from the GW 'Some Call You the Rich and Privileged, I call You My Base' Bush administration and policies.

Frankly I think this whole myth of the Democrat candidate being all about taxes and more taxes is just that, a myth. Only those who are already welathy have anything to worry about and they're by far the minority and have been sheltered up until now (and would continue to be so under McCain). Rich get richer and all that...

Maybe too many tax cuts to get into office is one of the reasons why the USA is broke today?

You could be right. Would be interesting to see the data collated. But the campaign promises don't always come to fruition (Bush Snr's infamous 'Read my lips, no new taxes' speech springs to mind ). Plus the massive amounts they spend on the military certainly don't help.

I don't hate America, and in fact history shows we have a lot to thank them for.

One thing that does irk me is the government policy (whoever's in power) and their clear support for anything and with regard to Israel and at the same time trying to convince the rest of the world that they are batting for both sides.

and will also squander the budget on social welfare, historically, fiscally irresponsible governance tends to cause more problems without actually solving anything.

    Of course it does.

I'm not sure what you're getting at to be honest. How does Obama's proposed tax plan automatically equate to "fiscally irresponsible governance"? Why will the budget on social welfare be squandered? It's not as though it's in such great shape right now.

If you contrast Obama's proposals with those of McCain (essentially more of the same as there has been under Bush) how can that automatically be characterised as 'worse'. It has been the Republicans at the helm these past years as the economy has gone down the gurgler. When Bush entered office following the Clinton administration there was a surplus. Again the whole Democrats=Tax Mad/Fiscally Irresponsible thing is a myth and doesn't hold up to scrutiny.

Stupid poll, has as much validity as having a poll asking people if they are bigots. TDers like Ant have devoted their lives to seeking out information that shows America in a negative light and have spend hundreds of hours of their lives expressing their hatred of America, and yet I suspect most of them voted "no" in the poll and therefore all is forgiven.

Silliness, go back and look at the hundreds of anti-american threads and thousands of anti-american rants on teakdoor. The evidence of Ant and his buddies spending most of their free time over the last few years in slamming America will not be wiped clean by this silly little poll.

Egregious codswallop. This will be another one of those things that you've just admitted to pulling out of your arse and making up then. Zero credibility.
