An idea has been bubbling up recently to prevent the fight between Hillary and Obama from costing the Democrats the White House in 2008. Enough 'superdelegates' would withhold their votes in the first round of the Democratic convention and throw Al Gore's name into the mix. By round two, with all delegates free to vote for whomever they want, Gore would start to look a lot better than his competition. Most likely, Obama would broker a deal (Gore and Hillary don't like each other) whereby Obama accepts the role as Vice President. It might even appeal to Obama, who would have several more years in the public eye to convince redneck voters that he's not a Muslim terrorist. There would certainly be talk about the fairness of this scenario, but don't questions of fairness here seem to ironically favor Al Gore? I see this as a possibility only if Obama limps to the convention by losing most of the remaining primaries. It would be an almost unbeatable ticket, wouldn't it? Both Hillary and Obama are alarmingly weak in the so-called 'swing states' of Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania. Any opinions as to the actual probability and wisdom of this scenario for those who want to keep John McCain away from the White House?
