    Bush quotes

I was browsing through some pages looking for some info on American history when I came across this quote:

“I’m oftentimes asked, what difference does it make to America if people are dying of malaria in a place like Ghana? It means a lot. It means a lot morally, it means a lot from a – it’s in our national interest” – President George W Bush; Accra, Ghana, Feb 20, 2008
Is he the sharpest American for presidency? I really find it hard to believe that this guy is in the oval office for the second time.

Not three years late. He said that on Feb 20 this year.

what difference does it make to America if people are dying of malaria in a place like Ghana?
I wish he'd have asked me to answer that question.

"Not a god-damned bit of difference, Ma'am. The rest of the world sits idly by and watches 10 percent of all babies in poor African countries like Ghana die and wait for some nation to act. Then they come out with accusations of the US trying to make inroads for oil or natural resources. It's a good question and one I'm glad you asked. In fact, we're withdrawing all the aid we promised and will allow your neighbors and regional friends to deal with it as it's a lot closer to home and they're far more able to address the problems. So thanks for the dancing and showing us your tits and all that fine African culture bullshit, but we've got enough problems to deal with apart from your little malaria deal. Oh, and a little AIDS advice -- quit acting like a bunch of African tribesmen and fuckin everything that moves. Trying to fertilize your barren, sandy fields with the corpses of two AIDS-riddled generations, is a losing proposition. The Hutus and Tutsis were on the right track with their fewer-mouths campaign. Well, thanks for your hospitality and all the afro rags for Linda, they look great on her, really. But we gotta get outta here. Seeya"

But alas -- nobody asked me.

I'm curious why Bush and his handlers have taken such an acute interest in Africa as of late. The average guy on the street in the U.S., for better or worse, could probably give a rat's ass about the problems there. My only guess is the intense rush on the natural resources there, what with China et al investing quite heavily there. I guess the policy is to play up our humanitarian qualities to stay on their good sides. Anybody else got a take on this?

If I understand this correctly - he says that it is in the US interest that people are dying of malaria in a place like Ghana. Perhaps the pharma industry paid for his election campaign. But we have to see that GWB was elected 2 times and seems to be the brightest guy over there. At least brighter than the people electing him... Imagine one of them would be president ;-)

I like his one about "Put food on your family!" and something about "the human being and the fish can coexist"
