    right or wrong

so where do i start, i floundered into this forum and i think i got a bit of an idea where the posters here at, for me its a great mix of proffessions, trades, sceptics and ego,s and aggitators, myself i travel many circles, i encounterd one the other night that got me thinking and concerned so i was curious about elsewhere in the world, i was talking to a bloke in a "bar" and he was moaning about how hard it was to get some smokko.. bear with me here, for i hear a moan about druggies, his concern and i may add mine too was it was harder to get a smoke than it was anything else,, ie powders, pills, i,d never gave it any thought, it really dose,nt affect my world, but it was a scary thought, that that was happening,
and just today i read in the news that old lizards anus is talking about drug wars [woops war on drugs] and body count.. what i would like to know is it the same everywhere? [to your knowledge]

It's prolly easier to get yaba in Pattaya than smoke unfortunately.
They are both treated the same in the eyes of the law (blemish on society and defiler of small children), so the dealers presumably figure small, high profit, non smelly pills are where the money is.

Where I am in Blighty, one circle smokes, another likes a bit of Charlie, so these are easy to get and safe to use. The local fuzz have enough problems with the kids who don't have the wits to go somewhere more private. Here in LOS, I don't know nothing about it, and wouldn't touch it as it is not worth the risk getting caught. Some of the young men, that ride up and down like loonies, are on something, but I leave them to it.

It's the 'pushers' that the Police always target, based on the perceived misery of the working class crack and 'H' addicts. The expense of getting it, safely, accross borders means that it has to be an 'organised crime' for it to work at all. Greed and profit margins (cutting) envolve more people and then there is additional securety for storage, guns for protection etc etc..... The Police are, probably, not aware that you don't have to push smoke but yes, it is getting harder to find in some places.

    Nice thread BTW

Good post Loombucket. The cheek defies logic.

If you insist on being criminal, why not shut your gob? I speed in my truck sometimes but I don't usually stop in at the Cop Shops and ask where the speed traps are. When I do they usually want to check my truck.

Yet you just admitted breaking the law yourself: "I speed in my truck sometimes", and I am sure you wouldn't hesitate to chat a pub about it with mates.

Ganja still seems easily available in the country-side, casual users grow their own.
The authorities know that it is not the same as hard-drugs which require a production and distribution net-work, but this is not adequately reflected in legislation. The 2003 drug-war has included ganja, prices have risen (in Bangkok) and it was harder to get, police have taken a less tolerating stance towards the locals as well.

There is a huge movement and lobbying organizations in the US to get smoke legalized or at least reduce possession penalties to simple misdemeanors. In many states and jurisdictions this is happening already, but there are still many being prosecuted for felony possession in many places.

I also think it should be treated differently, and think Thailand has done it very wrong classing it as it has. It means not only locals, but foreigners on holiday, even though they should have been warned of the penalties or should be presumed to know, may still consider that the enforcement is similar to their home country, which is wrong.

I think the wrong kind of people get screwed in the war on pot, including many innocent first time experimenters.

How many of us can say we never experimented with it?

That is a bit too general. You'll find that large quantities of grass result in stiff prison sentences and confiscating of property, the distinction has only been on the lower levels of consumers and small-time dealers, due to police discretion. But they have also felt the heat since 2003.

That question probably dates me a bit, eh?

Depends on who you are busted by.
Even in the states that has somewhat made it legal for docs to prescribe it and those folks to use it, if the feds get you then it is off on vacation you go, because it is still an illegal drug to the feds.

Not you Loom. Your post, as I said was good ...

Just a general statement -- badly worded on my part.
    I blame the Beer Issan.

Thanks Texpat. I didn't think that you meant me, but better safe than sorry.

I was going to launch into a three, or four, paragraph spiel about this poster not condoning drugs etc, but perhaps another time. Interesting to note however, that this poster is allergic to many things and cannot take anything, without a detailed examination of any possible side effects. The first time I took Viagra I nearly died. Didn't do the g/f much good either.
