For those of us who have had the privilege of living in Malaysia, considered a moderate Islamic country, it was a source of great amusement during Chinese New Year celebrating the Year of the Pig came along. Posting any public depiction of a pig was banned!

If they're unwilling to lampoon Christ it is a double-standard, but it would depend on the context.

The context is that it's a private newspaper with a target audience. They can print whatever they like within the legal framework, no obligation to be balanced or even-handed.

How stupid and silly.

Also in Malaysia, you have to register you're religion with the government. Muslims are forbidden to marry non-muslims, by law.

There is a case about an Indian woman, who ended up with Islam being her official religion who cannot get married to another Indian because he's not Muslim.

Islam is stupid, and so is Malaysia.
