Nah, I don’t think the Trump effect was as profound or influential as it was in Canada. Dutton was always on a hiding to nothing all on his own.

Why? He doesn't seem to be that likeable? He also isn't a handsome man and is, perhaps, a bit rough?

A fair and astute observation from qwerty.

Trump champions various conservative causes, which can be useful, but he does so in such a theatrically contrarian way as to make other conservative leaders reluctant to be seen as being in Trumps corner.

I thorny dilemma for libertarian leaders around the world.

That's being very generous . The guy was corrupt as fuck, a racist, a bigot had zero personality or ideas. Hopefully the fucker will just fade into oblivion.

Where to from here for the Liberals?

Need a new leader first up.

I am thinking Andrew Hastie from your neck, Lao.

Ex special forces, who was kept in a sealed box during this campaign for espousing the heretical view that the 'fighting DNA of a close combat unit is best preserved when it is exclusively male'.

The pole position is currently held by deputy leader Sussan Ley, whose leadership would leave the liberals in the wilderness for some years to come, I suspect.

Are you forgetting he's basically shit on every country by putting tariffs on them?

Even ones that the US actually have a trade surplus with?

And it's no coincidence that Dutton was called the "Temu Trump".

The housing problem will only get worse. Labor has been importing people at record levels. There are not enough tradesmen to build the housing required. Familiar story? It takes around 5 years to train a competent tradesman in the construction industry.

Pete Credlin used to be the chief of staff for Tony Abbott when he was PM

She provides an interesting breakdown of numbers on the election here. Any party needs 76 seats to win an outright majority.

Amazing that Labor won this election with 87+ seats on a primary vote of 34.79% (at the time of the report)

When they lost the 2016 election with only 69 seats on a primary vote of 34.73%

Their primary vote has not moved but the shift away from Liberals to independents coupled with the way preferences work has made a world of difference.

The preferences refers to the system in Straya where you have to number 1-6 your favourite candidates from about 12 available, only 2 of whom are the 2 major parties. I think those minor parties can then nominate which of the 2 majors gets credit for their preference votes.

    FFS - Peta Fucken Credlin!
You need to leave the echo chamber.
The conservatives ran off all the liberals from the party years ago and are left with idiots proposing nuclear power and jumping to Gina and big coals demands. ( The nuclear policy was just a piss weak way to keep gas and coal going far longer than it should have).

And Andrew Hastie - have a look at what he stands for - he is a sexist, WASP cock - he hates aussies and he hates liberals and thats OK because they hate him.
As for Ley and Chalmers - as is often said, if they the answer, its a fucken stupid question. I ain't no liberal supporter but I hop that true liberals can build a new party - economically dry but socially liberal. They have the Teals and maybe some of teh liberals like Simon Birmingham and Malcom Turnbull might get back on board..

Sorry Looper - love your pics and other threads but boy, the sun and surf sure addles the brains of you queenslanders!

4 years apprenticeship and that first year when you discover that you are now the one responsible ?

Does not equal competency, but for electrical work on housing construction it is more about being meticulous and having pride in your craft . Though apparently it is now acceptable to just throw TPS across the roof space rather than affix it to the joists every 300mm

And our immigration problem is not about the numbers , it is about the skills for the jobs they are doing.

Importing kitchen labour does not help advance the country.

And sky Australia is not a credible source for anything but cringe

Greens leader Adam Bandt loses seat of Melbourne as minor party wiped out in House of Representatives

Greens leader Adam Bandt has lost his previously-safe seat of Melbourne in a crushing blow to the minor party, which has now lost three seats in the lower house.

Barnabas? Only redeeming feature is he likes a wobbly pop or 10. But if that's his only qualification then Aussies might as well just vote bld

Is it okay to take drugs while voting?

Some medications can be taken during voting.

These include Bundaberg , Tim Tam suppositories, intramuscular long acting antipsychotic injections, inhalers, TD or VB(avoid VD) , crack and Coons Cheese to aid breathing.
