The weak supplicant response from the Albanese government on this is not doing us any favours

They knew the ships were there and said they were monitoring them but somehow they were not aware that a live fire drill had started

The AUKUS submarines are still years away so I think we need some heavy investment in anti-ship missiles and delivery capability

What do you think the Australian government should have done? The Chinese will be amused how wound up Australia got over this incident. Mission accomplished.

I see Senator Jacqui Lambie was getting a bit excited at the end of that video. I recall she once amusingly hit the headlines for expressing a preference for men with big dicks.

I think 2 things need to happen when this occurs

    1. The Chinese ships need to be tracked and monitored
    2. The Chinese ships need to be seen to be tracked and monitored by the Chinese

I would expect at least 1 Collins class submarine to be in involved in tracking for task 1

I would expect at least 1 Hobart class guided missile destroyer to be involved in activity 2

There was almost certainly a nuclear attack submarine accompanying the Chinese formation so this was a chance to test the anti-submarine warfare capabilities with Poseidon P-8 and Seahawks dropping sonobuoys

None of this seems to have happened since, by the department of defence own admission, they knew nothing about the live fire activities until a commercial airliner was warned by the Chinese to keep away and relayed the message back to Air Services Australia, who relayed it to Defence

The Australian public were told by the government that the formation was being monitored. They were clearly not being monitored.

This is going to be for real one day and these are opportunities to exercise and be ready for the real thing.

These are for Taiwan but they could be used on Australia too

The true Australians? Who are the true Brits? Their best dart players?

Looper, perhaps an Australian or even American submarine was trailing the Chinese but the Australian government doesn't want to give that away? Just speculating.

    So what nationality are you?

You certainly seem dull enough to be German.

The Lnp under scomo dreamed up this Aukus bullshit and announced it pre election while they were sending text messages to Australians warning about the China man offshore in ships circling. Gosh better vote for scomo to keep us safe. The the lying asshole reneged on a deal with the French for subs that we still had to pay for Albo has gone along with the Aukus thing but that was before the re appearance of The Trumpster.. personally I think the ALP are doing a great job. 10 years of alp bullshit, baby's overboard? Chinese warships circling just by coincidence on election day. Cmon Looper you can't honestly believe all there shit. Do you watch sky news?

It is only brought to the Australian peoples attention via the Murdoch media. Hopefully we are not all morons and see through the lies and bias

Do you think the Australian navy aren't out there to? Patrolling in international waters? Remember when the Lnp govt bugged the Timorese embassy under the orders of the Cross dresser Alexander Downer. Then we got( stole) all there gas assets nice people the LNP eh. Personally I've been back in Oz for 5 years and found things pretty fucked up.Albo got elected and I can see the guy kicking goals. The rest is just misinformation and Murdoch media bias. Blind Freddy can see that. Don't be be naive

I did not really want to drag the hum drum of party politics into the thread, but that is on me for taking a sneaky snipe at Albo in my bump at the top!

I will say that I think the looming confrontation between the Anglo-Western democracies, headed by the US, and the authoritarian powers, headed by China, (whether it be militarised, semi-militarised or non-militarised) will be the defining conflict of the 21st century and will set the geo-political stage for a century after and we need to take it seriously.

The best way to keep the peace is to be so visibly prepared for war that starting one does not seem appealing to the aggressor.

It seems not since a formal government enquiry confirmed that the relay of a warning issued to a civilian airliner was the first DoD knew about this.

Any adequate military monitoring of the fleet would have picked up live fire activity as soon as it started.

Peter Dutton promises the Coalition will return Port of Darwin to Australian control if it wins the Federal Election

Peter Dutton has vowed to return the Port of Darwin to Australian control if the Coalition wins next month's Federal Election.

Peter Dutton says a Coalition government will return the Port of Darwin to Australian control if it wins the federal election.

“An elected Dutton Coalition Government will act in the national interest to immediately secure the Port of Darwin by facilitating the return of the Port to an Australian Government-approved operator,” he said.

In 2015, the Northern Territory’s Country Liberal Party Government leased the port to Chinese company Landbridge for 99 years in a move that raised concerns all the way to Washington.

Outrage over the lease forced the Turnbull Coalition Government to change laws so state and territory asset sales come under the Foreign Investment Review Board.

Mr Dutton said a Coalition government would appoint a specialist commercial adviser to work with the Northern Territory Government and officials from the Departments of Trade, Finance, Defence and Infrastructure to provide advice and engage with potential new owners of the port.

This should have been fixed years ago. The idiots in the NT state government who leased the port of Darwin to the Chinese back in 2015 should have been strung up. That is the front line in any future war and should be guarded carefully against any Chinese presence.

The Chinese population is forecast to fall 400 to 500 million this century. China isn't going to be defining the 21st century. As a low income country, China is going to be struggling with caring for all their old people. Australia needn't get its knickers in a twist over China.
