This goes back a few years, but I was out with my oldest daughter and we came upon a homeless guy. Didn't look to tore up but had a sign, "Down on my luck, will work for food". My daughter said we should help him out. I said OK. I decided I would buy him lunch as we were near a business center with many places. We walked back to him and said " Hey guy how about we buy you some lunch" He declined and said "I just want money". I walked away. To me all those pity signs most come up with have become nothing more than a scam to make people feel bad. If he was really "Down on his luck" he would have jumped at a free meal.

    1. maybe he didn't like the look of you
    2. maybe he already ate.
    3. maybe he needed money for something that he determined was more important at that moment than food.

IMO the environment is bad for homeless people (rain , snow, cold etc), so I propose we ban the environment.
or perhaps we stop "liberating countries" and spend the Trillions of dollars spend there building our economy so we have less people needing help, and being able to help those who need help.
Both our people will be happier, and those we "liberate" will be able to stop begging us to stop liberating them.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

I suppose the problem is that although the homeless share one characteristics (they are homeless) that's just about the only thing they share as they all got there through different routes. The down on their luck (suddenly unemployed etc) are a very different kettle of fish to the terminal alcoholic with little chance of redemption, or to the mentally ill who are unable to cope in society. Runaways need a different type of support to all those.

So long as we lump those homeless who are temporarily disadvantaged, from the shitting in the doorways alcoholic/druggies it is going to be difficult to see any way forward.

san francisco and the surrounding areas should impose a tax tech firms, NYC on financial firms, and LA on the entertainment industry.

there's more than enough money sloshing around in those cities.

Why don't we tax the propagandists? Unlikely since they are the billionaire Oligarchs that control the right wing numbties.

I am afraid there is a lot of truth to Ray's statement.
Many years ago there was an expose on the atrocious conditions at state run mental institutions as a result many of them were closed down and the inmates dumped in the streets , many of them do not take their medications.
"According to a 2015 assessment by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, 564,708 people were homeless on a given night in the United States. At a minimum, 140,000 or 25 percent of these people were seriously mentally ill, and 250,000 or 45 percent had any mental illness. By comparison, a 2016 study found that 4.2 percent of U.S. adults have been diagnosed with a serious mental illness."

We need to stop "liberating" other countries and liberate our own.

One only has to visit Market street San Fran to see a seething shit hole of Nastiness and deprevation.

The gap between the rich fuks and the shitstains is equal to Thailand.

    God bless America.

    Not only for the homeless.
The US is becoming a shit hole, or perhaps it always was and we did not see it.
I have being following another member of this forum who was approved for social security disability as I am in a similar situation and would also need to apply soon. He just found out that you have to wait 24 months after approval to get medicaid. What does one do in the meantime? especially since they just said, yes you are too sick even to work. When you are sick you need medical.
I have a serious heart condition that causes me to black out. If I apply for disability,i would have to quit my job and as a consequence lose my medical insurance, The social security disability process can take up to two years, and after you are approved you have to wait another two years for Medicare , without medical I would be dead in four years.
And I can't purchase insurance that will guaranty me coverage of pre existing conditions for the next 4 years.
So I stay in my job, on a construction site, a danger to myself and others.
That's what a shithole this country is.

    I kinda like the place.

Sory about your medical situation I haven't had to deal with anything like that yet. As for the beggars I once gave a guy on the corner with a sign that read "Will work for food" a hamburger as I had just gone through the drive through at a Burger King. He cursed me out as I offered him the burger saying he didn't need f-ing food.

So yea, screw this place! I'm getting me a pop up camper and a beat up car to tow it and I'm heading off to the burning man festival camp sight so I can convince myself I'm living the dream.

Yo Dyke, I get your hate for this place. But to think I base my thoughts and actions on a single episode is ludacris. I'm not complaining about my lot in life. Others have more...or less and who am I to judge. However, I, through the scat you post ,believe you are not happy with what you made your life to be so you need a scapegoat. A country you admire so badly that it pisses you off that you were not born here among the masses of the homeless, or drug across the continents as a child with the other vagrants that may or may not ever have it better than you, though strive for a better existence knowing damn well it's better than the options they were left back home.

You make me wonder that if I were a rich dude would I really want you living next to me.

By the way that Munsk fellow (electric car guy) is shooting for the moon not the sun. You'd think he would give up by now and just go back to Finland or wherever the funk he is from. Guess it sucks to be here... now.

Well, you can't solve the worlds problems. The best you can hope for is to improve that small circle of folk you do come in contact with.

What goes around comes around and charity work in any of its many flavors always tastes good. The truth is, giving of yourself always puts a smile on your face.
