So, in short, Trumptards gonna Trumptard and they don't give a fuck about facts and are adept at bringing turds to a high-sheen finish.

    Plus ca change.

You (politician) must come up with an energizing message that amplifies itself and gets that "groundswell" of excitement. Carrying itself, the message, to the polls. Gone are the days when TV advertisements had the voting public as a captive audience. The oh so many channels available along with the variety of medias kinda dilute the advertising dollars effect.
No they don't, they amplify it.

Online advertising and coverage are a massive part of it.

Especially if they are being posted by Russians.

I find that so unbelievable - how can anyone still be undecided, especially with a guy as polarising as Trump. Americans no longer think in terms of fiscal or social issues as a catalyst for their choices and the last election was a perfect example as Trump showed no policies and 60 million voted for him.

As I said, the friends I have who are republicans/conservatives at heart are quite middle of the road and simply won't vote for the orange buffoon this time . . . they are all from paces I have worked; Phoenix, San Jose, Boston and Seattle . . . fiscal conservatives, social middle of the road, infrastructure spending and military spending realistic

Been in Thailand a few years now. Can't answer for just how much "on-line", "network" and/or "cable" advertisements matter.

I get my info from CNN and BBC, part of my true cable, MSNBC and AOL on-line, nothing in print other than the VFW mag which doesn't carry political.

What "influences" my decisions when it comes to politicians - their "stated" platforms as reported by the above mentioned media outlets.

When I lived in the US network TV commercials around election time were mostly mudslinging "vote for me cause the other guy is so bad"

Not, this is what I'm gonna do when I take the helm. So, if the general voting public is exposed to mostly mudslinging, how do they make their decisions - peer pressure.

"The first thing I'm going to do when I get elected is to close Guantanamo Bay"
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman"
    "Mission Accomplished"

Seems 'tis more of a "conditioned response".

Clinton aside whose dalliance barely affected the running of the nation, there's a marked and pronounced difference between broken campaign promises dashed on the shores of realpolitik and the constant, pathological, lies Trump spouts.

Yeah you are a bit out of touch.

    • 69% of U.S. adults use at least one social media site.
    • The average American Internet user has 7.1 social media accounts.
    • 88% of American 18- to 29-year-olds use social media.
    • Social media ad spend in 2019 is expected to be nearly $93 billion.

    Don't they just.

I'm also watching in utter bemusement as some Trumptards take Biden to task over his verbal gaffes and questionable behavior with women.

It's like these people have zero sense of hypocrisy.

It is not just that it is the fact that he is completely wrong to think that the election can be won only via healthcare. The polls all show drumpf way behind the top four dem candidates by double digits.

Come off it snubby, you know polls at this stage are meaningless.

It's what they look like next November that counts.

    +1

what bowie writes is so true.

    Swinging voters elect governments.

The 'rusted on trumptarts' and the 'Democrat snowflakes'* matter naught.

It doesn't matter how passionate your vote is ... it's still counted, by the machine, as a vote.

What matters are the swing voters, maybe those voters who tried the Trump experiment and didn't like what they saw may change their vote, or worse, become so disillusioned with the political shenanigans and decide to stay on the sofa/lounge and not vote and just yell at the TV.

All I want is political stability so the World Economy can gain some momentum and I can eek out some coin before I retire in a decade or two.

    ---

To those who think that Trump is revolting and no sane person will vote GOP/Trump ... nope and wrong.

    It's the economy stupid.

I'd disagree . . . the ones who will carry the election are new voters, far higher in numbers . . . now, how to get these lazy prats off their arses

Interesting bit – my USA Attorney passed so I returned to the USA to select another. Spend a month in the USA over the songran holidays. Of course, visiting friends and family. Celebrity status as I’m an expat.

Lived in Philadelphia/New Jersey area – solid blue territory. Visiting friends, two separate times, in conversation. Issue raised by others, had two separate millennials (who do not know each other and live in towns a few hundred miles from each other). Complained about the ACA individual mandate. One said “they’re making me pay for old peoples insurance”. The other just said it was “unfair” and forced him to have insurance he did not want. (did not want to pay for).

But, I don’t know these folks. They are both sons of my friends. Both working mediocre paying jobs, one part-time community college attendee, the other a sales clerk at a department store.

Now, the reason I bring this up is, this occurred in April, I didn’t solicit anything political in our friendly conversations, yet, on two separate occasions, two millennials raised the ACA and it’s “impact” on them.

That is what Americans are concerned about these days – no mention of “The Wall”.

Yeah nothing like an apocryphal tale of unverified veracity purporting to be reporting conveniently supporting comments from two people to indicate what an entire nation is thinking.

And "The Wall" was the sated reason many people voted for Trump. Mexico's paying remember.

Another common right wing tactic. "I spoke with an old friend who is a liberal and a democrat since for the last thirty years I was surprised when she said (insert comment supporting/validating some right wing talking point here)"
