Fasting once in a while is good for you. I not sure the Ramadan way is something I like but I to fast periodically for a variety of reasons.

Yeah, fasting has undoubted positive effects.
It also features in most religions as a way of cleansing and being closer to god. It can further insight, meditation and strengthen one's resolve.

I'm not sure it's god but fasting does increase cosmic awareness.

^ I suppose I'm confusing towel head Arabs with diaper head Sikhs!
Whats the deal with the red and white checked tablecloths on the head?

Oh dear, this thread just gets worse, somehow.

Fasting needs to be done systematically for a period of time to derive the benefits; Arabs and Sikhs aren't the only ones wearing headscarves (Macha doesn't, btw, as far as I know), but I think you all knew that already....sigh.

It's a kufiya, also called a gutra in Saudi, a traditional arab style headdress, the patterns or how it's folded or the structure of the rope circlet, the agal, show the wearer's national or tribal affiliations and their status within that group. The black and white checked ones were traditionally worn by Palestinian farmers and workers and became symbols of Palestinian nationalism about 70 years ago as part of the growing disquiet over Zionist immigration. Different colours of Palestinian kufiya can show political affiliations but these days people generally wear whatever color they like, black and white or red and white being by far the most popular.

You mean, they are not all the same - camel-shagging arabs who couldn't hammer a nail straight into a wall if their life depended on it?

Amazing, isn't it? Some of them are almost human. If they were a little cuter and weren't so prone to blowing themselves up they'd make great pets.

It's in the genes, just as the Germanic genes compel Germans to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve beach-chairs in Benidorm and Mallorca.

Well, well well. Isn't that two racist remarks I just read?

And you falsely accuse me of making racist remarks?

"Racism is the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior or inferior to members of other races."

Isn't that known as hypocrisy? Same thing you accused me of?

Seems to me that you're a bigot as well:

    bigot
: a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance
