A better comparison might be Ramsay MacDonald and the rise of the Labour Party. Mr Farage fails miserably in that respect so I went for the glib reply.

Farage used to be vilified by all the MSM yet still managed to get repeatedly elected as an MEP. To call Farage a failure can only come from your continued butt hurt that the Brexit referendum didn't go your way and your obvious hatred for democracy. UKIP were basically a one party issue as in to get the UK out of the EU and unlike just about every other party they have actually achieved what they set out to do. Now you can continue to bash and hate Farage till your hearts content but for his role in securing the UKs future many will remain grateful. £ touching $1.40 as I know your keen interest in the £/$ exchange rate.

It's only since UKIP won or got the largest share in the Euro elections that the media started giving him time. Before that he was ignored or vilified.

Before 2014, The tory party had the most. UKIP is a section of the Tory Party, designed to shepherd the right wing racists back into the party. Same as Bernie did for hillary. Nominated establishment opposition, same as Trump... and who is farages bezza? Trump.

But he's had the last laugh, if it wasn't Farage and the rise of UKIP we would never have had the referendum and even then no one thought leave would win. Like or hate him his achievements are nothing short of spectacular.

UKIP got more votes than the SNP at the 2015 general election, the SNP ended up with 50 odd Mps compared to the one for UKIP in Carswell if that doesn't show what's wrong with our current system nothing will.

not really. CaMORON only said he would have a referendum because he believed that there would be another coalition with the unLiberal unDemocrats, and as part of that coalition the condition would be no referendum. Alas, some of the yellow flag wavers voted for other parties, so disgusted were they at Fiddler Clegg. So the tory scum won a majority, and he had to have the referendum. It wasn't anything to do with farage, and everything to do with senior tories.

As for the referendum itself, farage's role was simple. Drive as many left leaning people who naturally detest the EU into voting to remain, because they are daft enough to be worried about being associated with Farage and his motley crew of racists. It really did almost work as well, with the previously anti EU guardian and their readers historically being very Anti EU. It is a very simple manipulation technique and it usually works. Luckily the Anti EU sentiment of people who know and recall that the EU is federalistation by stealth under a chamber of Appointed leaders won through.... hence anti EU caMORON resigning, Pro EU federalist May being appointed PM, with her opposition in the cabinet being Pro EU Federalist Boris.

There was a referendum on first past the post versus an alternative (eg Proportional Representation) in May 2011. An underwhelming turnout of just over 40% rejected the idea by more than 2/3 majority.

Yes and I accept the result, the majority of people who bothered to vote wanted the first past the post to remain and so it does. The turnout in that vote showed the whole lack of interest in it though unlike the EU referendum where more people voted than in any previous election/ referendum.

Be interesting to see who steps up and from what countries to carry on Nigels good work. Some big shoes to fill but a few possible candidates. Maybe your beloved Le Penn or Wilders in Holland or Beppe in Italy. Or maybe someone new will step up to continue the good fight.

No word of a lie, but you can email them and find out to Candidates@ukip.org - ask no questions, I'll tell no lies, but that email address gets forwarded to every candidate standing for a position whether a seat or a party appointment. Drop them a note.

UKIP are finished no more than a laughing stock now, I was referring to the other anti EU parties within the EU, they will need a new leader after the next EU parliament elections next year.

They will all get railroaded by a Farage type.... just you watch. The EU will keep growing and growing.
