May the fun begins (no pun intended)
Tory leadership: Gove becomes eighth candidate to enter race
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-48411784
Michael Gove has said he will enter the race for Tory leader, challenging his former Vote Leave ally Boris Johnson.
It means the two figureheads of the official Leave campaign will battle for the right to steer the Brexit process to a conclusion.
They previously clashed during the 2016 leadership contest, won by Theresa May.
So far, a total of eight candidates have announced they are standing for leader since Mrs May said she would resign on 7 June.
Their positions on a no-deal Brexit are emerging as the "central fault line", says BBC political correspondent Chris Mason.
Speaking outside his home, Environment Secretary Mr Gove said: "I can confirm that I will be putting my name forward to be prime minister of this country.
"I believe that I'm ready to unite the Conservative and Union Party, ready to deliver Brexit, and ready to lead this great country."
His decision to enter the race echoes the 2016 contest, when he ran against Mr Johnson for the leadership.
Then, he faced allegations of betrayal after withdrawing support from Mr Johnson and running for leader himself, eventually helping to end both men's chances of becoming prime minister.
^^^^ While Gove may have support among his fellow Tory MPs the membership hate him for stabbing Boris in the back and us ending up with Doris. Only way Gove becomes PM is if he gets to last 2 and the other candidate is a remainer.
I personally can't see that buffoon Boris being any better than May. But if Rees-Mogg says he's the man then ..........
Butters wet dreams about Rees-Mogg.
The problem the Tories face is that under May they've upset a large proportion of their traditional voter base. In the PM election they are going to have to show a united front, even getting behind a candidate they may not universally like and give the winner support to deliver, otherwise they risk permanently losing a chunk of their supporters. They just cannot risk further in fighting.
I don't see any of the runners delivering Brexit against orders from Berlin, yet each with hand on heart will swear to do it.
Nothing profound there, even the Belgian got it right.

it's 8pm here, let's see how LePen did for the election, anything above 25% will be very serious
The EU is like FIFA with Sepp Blurter, run by drunks and professional politicians who sit above everyone looking down and just won't listen because they know better. Going to enjoy this.
According to the exit polls in France Le Pen has come out top with the granny grabbers party a few % points behind.
yep, LePen won the day with 24%, Macron not too bad with 22%, and the Green 12%
conservatives (Sarko) 8% and Socialist (Holland) less than 6%
Landslide victory for a clean quick Brexit
Lib Dems and Greens between them have a greater percentage of the vote than Brexit party - currently.

So far, the Brexit Party has the same number of winning MEPs as the Labour Party, Conservatives and Lib Dems combined.
