    Luckily not many Thai villages have mosques and a muezzin bawling his a^se off and disturbing the peace 5 times a day.

    No, they have a Kamnan who does it instead. Do you actually have any experience of living in Thailand? Surely every farang who lives here knows what all those speakers are for?

    The speakers in our village or even Chiangmai don't bleat out 5 times a day from pre-dawn to near midnight, I might get to hear the village speakers blasting out the news, (the last time requesting info about a lost dog), once a day, if that.....plus a polite request has got the speaker located opposite our house moved way down to the other end of the soi, pointing away from us....where I can hardly hear it.
