It was indeed a goofy smile while Merkel and Macron gave the appropriate response. Utter dork.

I saw a meme of this photo with Melania's thought bubble, "Oh good, Putin's in town. I'll get the night off".

Re the dorky smile - Dwight Schrute (The Office - USA tv show) says that smiling is for losers because displaying teeth is a sign of submission in primate groups.
‘When I see someone smiling I think of a chimp pleading for its life’.

ie. ‘Be nice to me Vlad. Don’t impale me’

    But.
Could it mean ‘oh Vladdypoos you’re so macho and dominant. I’d love a bit of impaling’.

I have to say, taking these interpretations of of 1/1000 second exposures seriously is the height of stupidity. Both sides do it and both sides are equally hypocritical. Analyze the event based on facts not photographs taken out of context.

^I do get the humorous intent. But some actually take this stuff seriously.

No, posting the same two posts of your interpretation nine minutes apart is the height of stupidity.

I watched the entire ceremony from beginning to end. It was clear Trump didn't want to be there at all. His reactions to Macron's speech was indifferent and doubt he even figured out he was the target of the nationalist comment Macron delivered. So the smile for Putin albeit a single frame was the only time during the entire ceremony Trump showed the slightest interest. When Macron wrapped up his speech Trump was staring off into the sky and while others were applauding he fumbled around and finally noticed so gave a half hearted clap.

The trip, even by Trump's standard was a complete fuck up. He showed his true colors. A self centered, self interested person with zero respect for the military he so often claims to be the champion of. Quite sure this has not gone unnoticed by vets and active military folks.

Imagine the complete and utter meltdown from the GOP if Obama had done the same thing. Fox News would've imploded with opprobrium.

The bar isn't lowered for Trump, it's on the ground (and he still trips over it).

I take your point, it's valid. In this case, the photo followed the description and came from a different source than the description. Bsnub's article described the goofy smile and Macron's and Merkel's steely stare from a witness. The photo merely gave image to the description.
If it was the other way around, ie someone describing the 1/1000 of a second frame, your point would be apt.

Have you heard the latest Republican conspiracy theory, that Soros was behind the Arizona win? The state G.O.P. has filed a freedom of information request for information on interactions between election officials and, you guessed it, George Soros. It doesn't get any whackier.
