Let me get this straight... selling oil to the West is, in your opinion, somehow "milking resources from the West"? What would you have them do, give it away? Being that oil is the resource in question it could be said you've got that around the wrong way.

^Oil is just a commodity. The true resources are technology, hard currency and education.
Ever notice how the major oil exporting countries are the ones with very large populations of poor and oppressed.

Yes. For example Iraq, Look at the people chosen by the Bush administration and I emphasize chosen by the Bush Administration to lead Iraq. All corrupt thugs if you ask me. They are loyal to Money not Iraq.

Another example is Musharraf and Benazir Bhutto. Benazir Bhutto is going to be the new Pakistani Prime Minister.

Another Example the Karzai government. Many more examples are there. Actually this is what happens when the leaders are chosen for the people.

The West needs that oil a lot more than they do. If we didn't buy it from them they wouldn't even bother getting it out of the ground. A few Toyota pick-up trucks & the odd variation on a tuk-tuk are all you ever see on their streets.

We're launching shuttles, building & developing jets, all the glorious things that are taking us into mankind's future - something along the lines of Star Trek - while the only thing that lot need it for is flood-lit camel racing.

They dont get it out of the ground western companys do. If you put Arabs in charge of a oil field and rigs nothing would get done and they would burn the rig down as well as kill people bit like the Russians.

Fact was the 7 sisters that found, drilled and brought the fields into production, then ARAMCO was formed and eventuially the 7 sisters were out and the Arabs took it all over, but still use western labor force.

I remember reading an article discussing the after-effects of the 9/11 policies (increased security, issuing less Visa's and the like) and one of the main concerns was the detrimental effect it was having on employing foreign research scientists and the like to work in academia and the field - including NASA.
