What ISIS Really Wants
What ISIS Really Wants - The Atlantic
A partial quote from the entire piece:
...Our ignorance of the Islamic State is in some ways understandable: It is a hermit kingdom; few have gone there and returned. Baghdadi has spoken on camera only once. But his address, and the Islamic State’s countless other propaganda videos and encyclicals, are online, and the caliphate’s supporters have toiled mightily to make their project knowable. We can gather that their state rejects peace as a matter of principle; that it hungers for genocide; that its religious views make it constitutionally incapable of certain types of change, even if that change might ensure its survival; and that it considers itself a harbinger of—and headline player in—the imminent end of the world.
The Islamic State, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), follows a distinctive variety of Islam whose beliefs about the path to the Day of Judgment matter to its strategy, and can help the West know its enemy and predict its behavior. Its rise to power is less like the triumph of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt (a group whose leaders the Islamic State considers apostates) than like the realization of a dystopian alternate reality in which David Koresh or Jim Jones survived to wield absolute power over not just a few hundred people, but some 8 million....
Fascinating reading. Woods believes ISIS is hell bent on facilitating the end of the world as described by the Koran and the Takfiri doctrine.
Quite the prize fight isn't it- Isis on the one side, vs Iran/Syria/Jordan/USA/Saudi/France/UK//Gulf States/Hezbollah & what remains of the Iraqi & Libyan governments on t'other. I suppose the jihadi's are right in one regard- their apocalypse beckons. Best not delay now.
They have a 'big idea' that is working for them. Recruiting is up. Quite enticing for young idealists. A chance to really do something with their lives - bring about the end of the world.
When IRA folded down in the late 1990's and an extended peace began to evolve, the number of male youth suicides shot up in N Ireland, mostly Republican.
Prior to that, the Irish voted for divorce, overturning papal rule for the first time in Irish history.
Into the moral void thus created, fell all who wished to fill the ensuing power vacuum left by papal power's passing, including the IRA, but constrained by Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness
Let's hope that a large number of IS inspire jihadists end up dead, martyred even,,....definitely gone to allawalla land to suck on them grapes/ pearls/ virgins or whatever they think's that's there for them...
I'd be happy!![]()
^Do you mean this off-beat idea from a US Muslim group?
Extreme Wahhabism is the Brainchild of British Intelligence Agency
British government is responsible for creating Wahhabism and its agenda given to Ibn Abdul-Wahhab through their agent Hempher, and is now being carried out by extreme Wahhabis—ISIS.
In order to understand ISIS, we should know what Wahhabism is, how it came into existence including some references to its founder, his claims, beliefs, aims and objectives. In this paper, we can only mention these briefly, but we invite the attention of serious investigators to do further in-depth study into this phenomena of extreme Wahhabism. The key to uncovering the truth about ISIS lies in understanding Wahhabism. A small book entitled Confessions of a British Spy reveals relevant facts about how the British intelligence agencies created Wahhabism, whose mandate is now the basis of ISIS.

Kurds Kill 60 ISIS Terrorists In Northern Iraq
Go get 'em Kurds!
More than 60 Islamic State terrorists have been killed after fierce fighting broke out overnight in northern Iraq, Kurdish officials have said.
Their bodies were piled into a digger claw and onto the back of a flat-bed truck today in the strategic village of Sultan Abdullah, which extremists have targeted repeatedly in the past two months.
The bloody assault came just a day after U.S. officials revealed they are planning a 25,000-soldier invasion of Mosul – which was seized by Islamist militants last June – in as little as six weeks."

Foreign Fighter: American Joins Battle Against Islamic State
Since Islamic State militants declared a "caliphate" last year in parts of Iraq and Syria, thousands of Westerners have traveled there to join the battle.
But one American man told VOA he has joined the fight, not for the Islamic State jihadist group, but against it.
"I am in Iraq helping to raise a Christian army to fight ISIS," declared Matthew VanDyke in a statement on Twitter this week.
VanDyke is a bearded, blue-eyed Baltimore native with a slender build and a master's degree in security studies from Georgetown University. He has formed what he calls the Sons of Liberty International, or SOLI, a nonprofit group that is helping to train a militia made up of Assyrian Christians, whose homeland in northern Iraq has come under attack by Islamic State militants.
The militia, the Ninevah Plains Protection Units, or NPU, is one of several small groups of Christian fighters trying to defend vulnerable locals against the Islamic State group, which has carried out mass executions and expulsions of religious minorities.

As an aside, my great aunt Eva, was a Syrian Christian who immigrated to the U.S. in the '50s with her family.
Leaving the incompatibility between faiths aside for the moment.
Islam, in the broader sense, is tearing itself apart. And because of modern technology - in transport, communications and weaponry - the whole globe is being sucked into this implosion. Sure you had divisions like the Sunnis and Shias for yonks, but in the 21st century they can get at each others throats with ease and devastating effect.
The pressures of a waning ability to expand and retain their followers in the face of increasing education, knowledge and science just adds to the volatile mix.
The basic problem that will prevent any semi-peaceful resolution to this implosion is that the moderate muslims' desperate incantation that groups like ISIS do not represent 'true' Islam, and is a perversion or hijacking of their faith, just doesn't hold water.
Islam, without reform, simply never was, isn't and can never be a 'religion of peace'. And reform is nigh impossible because the Quran tried to cast itself in stone. Reform it and it will fall apart. Islam is inherently brittle. It cannot bend, it can only break, spectacularly and violently.

Great post.
Yes, reform and/or a reformation cannot really happen in Islam because they Quran is "cast in stone" as you say. It's the direct word of god, according muslims.
Here is an article on the current reach of ISIS from Afghanistan to north Africa.

With all due respect, you do not know what you are talking about. From its earliest days, Islam has possessed a tradition of revival and reform. The 19th century modernist movement, for example, wanted to confront the challenges of their day by reinterpreting Islam to meet modern needs. Do some research, and look up ijtihad (re-interpreting the sources of Islam in the modern context). Fatwas can also help adapt Islamic law to the spirit of the time using “the principle of maslaha (public interest) allowing the law to be changed according to modern requirements.
