In Comparison to January 2002, here the increases in prices for few raw materials:

OIL / IPE Brent increase 245 %

Aluminium increase 116 % Price actual : 2'800.00 USD / T

Nickel increase 819 % Price actual : 50'310.00 USD / T

Copper increase 485 % Price actual : 7'500.00 USD / T

Zink ( Zn ) increase 448 % Price actual : 3'770.00 USD / T

LED ( Pb ) increase Price actual : 2'395.00 USD / T

Some other facts :

In China there is the biggest migration ever seen by human population going actually on by moving each year to the cities 30 million people from rural areas...

Each year building wise, 2 city the size of New York emerge on chinese soil...

China uses 3 times more metal then the USA for own consumption only, export excluded...

Has anyone thought about the impact of having China consume all our natural resources ? let's make sure they become communist again

^ At present there are 700 million Chinese who live on less than $2 per day so the pressure on world resources we are seeing at the moment is the tiniest fraction of what could happen. At current growth rates of 9% pa, their economy doubles in size every 8 years so if growth continues at the same rate, by 2030 their economy will be 8 times as big as it is now. Does anybody think the world can withstand that kind of pressure?

Not quite the same timescale but in early 2003 uranium ore sold for $23 per kilo. This spring it was selling at something like $190 per kilo.

In my game (textiles) the chinks have been slowed down a tad. The goverment are trying to tackle enviromental concerns re polution etc from the EU & Yanks. Some of the costs have risen 8 fold dealing / doing things properly in the run up to the olympics. This has made them think twice before expanding further & consuming more raw materials
