    I agree.

Food for the table, clean water, tarmac roads, medical care, education, accommodation choices, vacations, free to visit, live or work in foreign lands, no invasions from foreign regimes, their heads are proudly held high.

Those are all available to more and growing, whichever metric you use, citizens than many in the west. Box ticked.

    1. I've lived in Calgary, Canada's Houston, a very short time in an apartment then years in small satellite villages/towns 20 or 30 kms from down-town. Box ticked.

    2. Neither Vladivostok or Shenzhen have the temples, the beaches, the jungle, the freedom .... Box ticked.

    3. The rules are clear. Keep your nose clean and visit a government office once a year and hand over few easily obtained or re-utilised documents and a good night's beer money. Box ticked.

    4. Thais and all ASEAN countries, the educated ones speak English, it's their freely chosen common language. Russia and China also. Box ticked.

    5. South East Asia has a growing population, economy and political strength. Box ticked.

    The "WEST", ....

    6. I've been thfough the upbringing, school, uni, partying, home setup, family, kids .... and enjoyed it. I've done the global technical/executive life and enjoyed it. Box ticked.

    I've done the "WEST".

    7. I'm now, for the past few years - 5, 6, 7 .... I've stopped counting, enjoying my full life in a virus free, Thai, rural farming orientated, very small Thai town. In which there is one other falang who I've talked to 3 or 4 times.

An hour to a useful "city", an hour to a beach most of the "WEST" actually spend days/£1,000s, to visit for 2 weeks a year, 10 minutes to religious solitude, 30 minutes to a real and dangerous "Jurassic Park". I have a gorgeous and manageable, female partner and the choice of 1,000s if desired. Box ticked.

Not to forget TD's worldwide internet home to play in.

    Yea, life sucks.
