You call it an accident. I call it gross negligence. That's the point.

A student, learning to use a firearm, pointing it towards someone and discharging the weapon unintentionally is one thing (although a novice that might do this must be under constant watch to prevent such an accident) . An instructor doing so is not an accident but gross misconduct.

I have personally witnessed a student turn his loaded gun too far away from the target and being pounced on by three Instructors.

Pointing out accidents due to negligence in another discipline (motoring) is side-stepping the issue. Let's stay focussed on the subject at hand shall we.
Fair enough.

The subject at hand is that (in the US and most parts of the world), there are an increasing number of vicious people that will beat you to death, stab you, rob you, shoot you, hack you to death with a machete, and rape you (either before or after).

They will do it for kicks, for political reasons, religious reasons, and for a few bucks, or simply because they want to.

I believe, that having a gun and knowing how to use it, gives potential victims the best chance of preventing these types of crimes; and protecting themselves and their families in the process.

I also believe, that if society starts killing these criminals in the act; they are making the world a better and safer place to live for everyone (except for the criminals of course). In other words, it becomes a self-correcting problem.

People who can't understand that simple logic, probably don't deserve to have guns, and probably shouldn't have guns. I just feel sorry for their families.

You are enlarging the subject beyond personal self-defence into another subject not relevant here.

The point that you miss about self-defence at home is that a gun should be the last resort. You seem intent on finding an opportunity shoot and kill someone in your own home even though it may not be necessary. You either live in a very bad neighbourhood or you are living in a fantasy world.

You still haven't told us whether or not you ever saw front line action in the military during which you killed opposing military and/or innocent civilians. Were you a cook or clerk frustrated because you couldn't go out on a killing trip like your buddies?
