The thing that worried me about Ronnie R was the story that he made decisions based on Nancy's astrological readings - I'm not sure how true this is. Apart from that I agree with sabang in that it wasn't a 'one man show', RR was the figure-head of an 'idea'.

Who was more the crucial figure in 'ending' the Cold War, Reagan or Gorbachev?
Back off Margaret, you're on a sugar rush!

Yes, the astrologer story has a lot of truth to it, according to people close to them.

Reagan was not the sharpest guy in the world, as I've said. As we now know, that has nothing to do with being President in the U.S.

It's not an "either or" question.

Both were instrumental in 'ending' the Cold War.

There were many other factors as well.

In particular, the economy of the Soviet Union was really going down the drain. This economic slide started in about 1961.

He might have gave a short term boost but he actually killed the economy for the USA.
Union busting bastard would have left the unions alone the us would not have had all the give away businesses and break contracts, lower wages, junk manufacturing ability,All the outsourcing jobs and mfg. just a damn lot of things that the unions would not have allowed to happen if they would have had any strength.
It all goes right back to Ronny Baby.

And he also screwed the career military people.

Retired military people curse Reagan to this day for lowering their pension.

You can find the article googling it.
