    Joe absentee leaves McCain fumbling

He's become a mascot of John McCain's attempts to paint Barack Obama as a tax-and-spend liberal determined to hit ordinary working class Americans in the pocket.

But "Joe the Plumber" became "Joe the Absentee."

Addressing a rally in the western Ohio city of Defiance, Republican candidate McCain recalled how Ohio plumber Joe Wurzelbacher had quizzed Obama over his tax plans and attempted to introduce him to the crowd.

Yet when Wurzelbacher was asked to step forward he was nowhere to be seen.
"Joe's with us today. Joe, where are you? Where is Joe?" McCain asked, only to be greeted by an awkward silence. "Is Joe with us today? Joe, I thought you were here today."

It's becoming more and more farcical . . . like the performance of a bad comedy stand-up act.

Embarrassing for both of them . . . or should I say they are embarrassing themselves.

Poor guy's probably been pummeled in his own neighbourhood. His real name ain't Joe, he's not a union man, etc. But, slap in the face for McC. Wonder if Joe got paid off by the Obama camp.

Yes, that must be it . . . oh, you are ever so clever

"Is Joe with us today? Joe, I thought you were here today."
McCain swiftly brushed off the moment however. "Well, you're all Joe the Plumbers!" McCain said.
    Oh, Joe . . . where are you, Joe . . .

I think McCain got a dose of reality. Like the rest of us, one can never find a plumber when the toilet is backed up and the crap is all over the bathroom floor.

On the serious side, just another example of the incompetence within McCain's campaign staff. Joe was obviously going to have a featured role at this rally and he didn't show. Inexcusable!

See video of a 9-year-old Chapel Hill boy being shocked by a (McCain / Palin ) campaign sign wired to an electrical current. The video was captured by a remote camera mounted by homeowner Shawn Turschak, who wired the sign after repeated vandalism of signs.

^ the old man was giving a speech last week and probably forgot where he was and what day it was. it's all kind of sad really.....putting a 72 year old through a rigorous campaign of this type.

^^ and ^ Yes, a speech to which 'Joe' was brought in as a 'special guest' . . . he was at an earlier one but pissed off for the second one for a while, for some reason.

    Couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery

Top Thirty Errors That Doomed McCain

    1. Not pursuing the Reverend Wright connection, as an issue of judgment and then credibility. Even Jerry Nadler knew it was a sign that Barack Obama lacked political courage, i.e., character.
    2. Waiting until September to raise Barack Obama’s other troubling connections (e.g., Bill Ayers, Rashid Khalidi).
    3. Failing to devise a comprehensive economic message until the final weeks of the campaign.
    4. Failure to explain the Democrats’ role in the financial meltdown.
    5. Not enough talk about “friends of Angelo” and Democratic corruption.
    6. Wasting his convention speech on “bipartisanship” and biography instead of pounding home a core economic message.
    7. Frittering away time and money in Iowa.
    8. Losing time in the spring when McCain had sewn up the nomination but Obama had not. An ideal time to begin defining the contrast in messages.
    9. Appallingly deficient “oppo” research and timing. Why didn’t the “bankrupt the coal industry” tape come out before the final weekend?
    10. Going to war with the MSM without an effective plan to use alternate media to get their message out.
    11. Get the rest here

McCain or his Handlers mistake was quite simple, and it seems to me they had the wool pulled over their eyes by their own partisan Faithful- who lap this kind of stuff up.

This was running a negative, sniping campaign at a time when people did not want to hear that- they wanted positive answers, a vision for change and the future. Apart from feeding Right wing disgruntlement, the McCain campaign just did not reach people. It probably would not have been enough to win, but he would not have been so comprehensively whitewashed.

The inevitable post mortem. Agree with the above. Number two would be a problem because he would have also had to admit the Republicans were equally responsible. He missed a big chance by voting for the bailout. A real "conservative" would have voted no. The rest are nonsense.

"The roll-out of Sarah Palin." (from your link)

Not only the roll out, her selection to begin with when he needed a moderate VP to sway Independents and undecideds. The core republicans would have voted for him anyway. Given the economy problems, selection of Romney would have been the right pic.

Last but most important his campaign was mismanaged and based on poor strategy from the beginning. Failure to engage the 18 - 25 year old voters that made a huge difference and were through their votes and get out the vote efforts a key to Obama's win.

    Bill Ayers
    Rezco
    Rev. Wright
    Etc., etc.

You bet. The vast majority of voters felt Obama's was just fine. I believe Powell's endorsement was a stamp of approval regarding his character and his ability to lead. Powell is still quite respected by Americans.

Ya still don't get it. Painting Obama as having the same character or sharing the same beliefs as someone he knows or was associated with doesn't play. Clinton tried and she lost. No one is listening nor should they because there is nothing there!!

Forget who said this but unless someone caught him in bed with a dead woman or a live boy, no one will listen.

Well, 'Mr. Average' is ignorant isn't he?

I guess it all started going downhill with the MTV Generation and Bill Clinton's 'definition of is' eh?
