    Surrender Without Responsibility

Let's call it Surrender Without Responsibility

"Top House Democrats working in concert with anti-war groups have decided against using congressional power to force a quick end to U.S. involvement in Iraq, and instead will pursue a slow-bleed strategy designed to gradually limit the administrations options."

    How brave of them...

It's their only practical route. They don't have the the 2/3 majority to prevent filibustering or make any other power plays in congress.

It depends on how you look at it.

    Here's one view:

    1. Elections are in 19 months. This is a major factor for any action or inaction.

    2. Public opinion (related to #1).

    3. U.S. military is strained. Longer tours, rotations, and now they are letting in people with certain felony convictions.

    4. Cost

    5. What it will take for the U.S. to stabalize the Al-Maliki coalition will be:

    a) Several tens of thousands of more troops
    b) Several more years (more cost and more casualties)
    c) What is a victory for the U.S. interests? We don't know.

i'm hesitant to include you in any group that i belong to, but regrettably it seems you are american.

therefore, i propose that we call ourselves adults who realize that a catastrophic mistake has been made and we're going to do the reponsible thing and stop throwing good money (and lives) after bad.

kudos to the democratic majority in the house for stepping up. let's hope the fillibustering republicans in the senate who want to stifle debate on the war meet the same fate as their colleagues in the house.

no. the house had a symbolic vote on GWB's proposed escalation of his failed war.

history will know that the american people and their elected representatives opposed this escalation....and that now more than ever, this is GWB's war.

my hope is that this will lead to votes in the future that are not solely symbolic and have teeth.

support the troops!.......halt the funding and bring them home.

Feb. 16 — A sharply divided House of Representatives passed a resolution on Friday formally repudiating President Bush’s decision to send more than 20,000 new combat troops to Iraq.
The rare wartime rebuke to the commander in chief — an act that is not binding, but that carries symbolic significance — was approved 246-to-182, with 17 Republicans breaking ranks to join all but two Democrats in supporting the resolution.
Passage was never in doubt, but the debate, lasting full days and much of three nights, brought nearly every member to the floor to declare, briefly but often vehemently, where they stood on a short, resolution affirming support for the troops but denouncing Mr. Bush’s new approach to the war.
“We owe our troops a course of action in Iraq that is worthy of their sacrifice,” said Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat. “Today, we set the stage for a new direction in Iraq.”

Sounds more like the fake conservatives have to eat their pride and finally face up to their mistakes.
It's getting more embarrassing by the minute, as probes into corruption and squandering of resources continue...

Sometimes I wonder if the Iraq war will be looked upon by historians as the last gasp of a dying American empire? Like ancient Rome and all the little wars they had until they were overun by the Visigoths. Don't expect the U.S. to be overrun by anyone (other than possibly the Mexicans) but the country may fade into a golden twilight much like the British Empire after WWII.

Nice one, Booners. A link to a link, is this a first?

I don't know what the big deal is. There was a non-binding resolution that criticises Bush's proposed increase in troops. The House just wanted it to go on official record and this issue was defeated. The House still disapproves of the increase, and that is the most important point. It is also interesting to note that the number of Republicans supported the Democrats' point of view increased.
The truth is out there, but then I'm stuck in here.

The British Empire (who is now overrun by Muslims) will fade long before America does.

What a crock of shit, this stupid resolution doesn't do anything but call out to the the extremist thugs: "Yohoo, hello we are on your side"!

This is what happens when Nancy Pelosi and Jack Murtha work overtime.
