That's a howler- Iran sits astride the Strait of Hormuz, by far the worlds busiest oil shipping lane. Part of Syria borders the Mediterranean sea, which is of no particular strategic value as long as the Brit's control Gibraltar. It therefore has virtually no navy to speak of, but hosts a Russian naval base.
