Will the bars be closed this weekend?

I was planning on coming to Pattaya to see a few friends this weekend but I've heard that the bars may be closed.....true or false?

I saw the info on thaivisa, which is conveniently not working for me at the moment. I also read it on the internationalsexguide.info -- was only trolling for the facts there! I will call my friend in Pattaya in a few to see if he knows anything.

It's bollocks - I have an extremly reliable source. No letter from the police and if there was it would only amount to "we would like you to close in respect". Thats Bangkok only however don't know Pattaya - but why should it be any different?

I was told there was an election in Pattaya for Mayor on smething on the 3rd.

Hence why Bangkok bars wouldn't know about it.

No clue if it is true, but someone mentioned it when I said I was down for the Pattaya Tens.

^I was under the impression that the Pattaya ele...ction closure was last weekend, as a Bangkok friend cancelled a trip due to this

    From Thaivisa:

AFAIK due to yet another election the bars will be closed from 18:00 Saturday to midnight Sunday although from about 18:00 Sunday evening the police relax a bit and some bars start opening up. There are places you will be able to get a drink but they will be pretty subdued and no gogo's will be open. If you want to hit the town and nightlife I suggest putting your visit off until next weekend. Unfortunately I am committed by my leave cycle to be passing through this weekend so am just resigned to having a quiet time .

Does this mean restaurants in Bangkok won't be serving alcohol? I am going to dinner with a very famous TD drinker, and I don't think that would be on.

We had local elections in Korat last weekend and the weekend before. Theoretically, no alcohol sales all day the day of the election until midnight. In practice, only places like Lotus and 7/11 enforced the restriction. I was able to purchase my daily ration as usual....
