    HFMD outbreak

CHIANG RAI: Six day-care centres and nurseries in Mae Sai district have been closed for two weeks following an outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD).

Symptoms of the disease _ high fever, a rash and blisters on hands, feet and mouth _ were found among 24 children at the six centres and nurseries, said Dr Sura Khunkhongkhaphan, director of Chiang Rai's Mae Sai hospital.
Some of the infected children were as young as three, but there were no serious cases, he said. Health officials have been sent to spray disinfectant.
