^ I don't keep track of such things but I imagine that it's 17 years old, along with just about everything else in this place.

There is actually a replacement set waiting in a drawer but I want to get my money's worth out of this burgundy set first. It will most likely be relegated to dog bedding in the workshop this winter.

The battle for the best fan spot.

With 'Lek' the tiler traipsing in and out the dogs have been shut in the gardener's side as they really haven't taken to him. In the awful heat, this has concentrated them beneath the one available fan.

Anna is wise and stays out of the melee.

^^ You're lucky the dogs get along. The front dogs have taken over the patio leaving the eldest to the living room and kitchen. Only Pepsi can wander wherever he likes without a fight. He's at the bottom of the stairs waiting for me to run to rhe aircon.

It's 38.7 in the shade with a bit of a breeze so he'll be waiting a while.

^ They don't always get along. Yogi (front, white) and Tommy (brown, at back), our two 'intact' males are constantly grizzling on at each other, yet are never apart. This occasionally escalates into a scrap and is very wearing. When Yogi joined us as a puppy he got along well with Tommy, who is a few months older.

I wonder if Pepsi will have some issues with other males once he matures?

As I mentioned, they all get along fairly well apart from Yogi and Tommy.

They are constantly growling and grizzling at one another yet always follow each other around and are always together. I think that if something happened to one of them, the other would be devastated.

I found them today, relaxing side by side in the workshop. With all the space that we have as well...



Morning coffee time... Lola would love to make friends with Anna, but she's having none of it. Lola will only risk this if I'm around.



And I do read comments on other threads... big toe close-ups only in the relevant thread, I promise. It looks like I'm going to lose the nail, which will be a disaster for gym attendance in my upcoming trip offshore.

I get maudlin before I go away to work and take lots of pictures... what a lovely dog Lola is proving to be. She was the only one of the pack who took a real dislike to the tiler... I'll pay more attention next time.



And Yogi of course... I don't think he'd know a bad tiler from a hole in his arse.



The night time routine has relaxed so that Lola and Maya sit with the daughter once the Kommandant has retired. They'll miss this 'inside time' once I go back to work. The daughter's little 'study' area will go into her extended bedroom once the 'Buddha room' project has been completed.



I tend to go to bed before the daughter these days... Lola knows this and tries to coax us upstairs into the aircon. Maya and Lola have become absolutely inseparable.

Unfortunately, she's also the first one up in the morning so huffs and scratches away until I get up and let her out and give her a snack. Then when she's sure I'm awake she minces back upstairs to try and get back into the AC.

Many years ago when we went on holiday to Lyme Regis I would sit in the back of the Hillman Hunter with my two sisters while my dad drove, and my mum would occasionally hand back Mint Imperials to keep us quiet. They were quite frugal road trips.

Me and my eldest sister would immediately crunch ours up while the middle sister would suck hers and make it last around 20 minutes or more, much to our envy, and it must have had some lasting effect on me to still remember 50 years later. And I reckon she knew exactly what she was doing.

Every morning I hand out these chewy treats to our seven dogs. Six of them immediately crunch theirs up and swallow the chunks while Lola runs off with hers and just holds it in her mouth... until all the others are finished.

And then she proceeds to slowly eat hers in front of the others, all staring at her in envy. And I reckon she knows exactly what she's doing.

If one comes close she snarls... even at Yogi. She's an annoying, but brave little dog.

My last evening in Isaan was spent as many others... watching a snake hunt.

These are usually initiated by Maya but the others are soon to join.



I am convinced that snakes must give off a strong scent to dogs because they seem to sniff them out immediately.

These hunts don't do my decorative reed bed much good, but I enjoy watching them.



They're well attended, apart from Anna of course. It seems that she prefers my company and who can blame her?



Yep, despite being eager to leave the awful heat and humidity of April in Isaan, I will miss the dogs... and the special attention I get.




My final morning was spent in pretty much the same way, but with a cup of coffee instead of a bottle of Leo.



This may look quite idyllic, but although at 6:30 am the temperature has reached nowhere near the day's high of typically around 40 degrees (feels like 45) and around 50 odd % humidity, the photo doesn't show the early morning sweat running down my forehead and dripping off my nose and ears, or my drenched T-shirt that goes straight into the wash basket after just a half hour spent outside, drinking a cup of coffee.



The photo also doesn't show the swarms of flies buzzing around my sweaty legs and landing on my ankles, below the protective layer of leg hair. It also doesn't show the mother of all heat rashes I currently have across my crotch that requires constant scratching. It drives me absolutely insane. However, I know that all of these issues will be gone very soon in the cool climate of the northwest European spring.

My left toe nail proved popular to the end, with the dogs queueing up to offer aid. I have to resort to Betadine once away from home.



And Anna... panting away, even at 6:30 am, poor thing. I hope she stays out of trouble over the next few weeks.



The strange thing is... Bergen currently has daytime highs of around 7 degrees and nighttime lows of around freezing point and I can't wait. But, I know that after just a few days I'll have forgotten what it felt like to be hot and won't think that Isaan was so bad after all.

Re: Yogi & Toby, I guess they're fighting for dominance.

Some years ago, my mom had 2 intact male dogs (Guardie & Seis; Guardie was Seis' dad). When Seis became fully grown, we noticed that sometimes Guardie would "jump" on Seis (try to mate). I think it wasn't really trying to mate but it was the older dog showing dominance. Also, I don't know if male dogs know if the puppies/ litter is theirs? I think in wolves, they know. (Both dogs have since passed away.)
