    Hello

I've just signed up so this is my first post,

I started holidaying to Thailand in 2009 and instantly fell in love with the place, came back again in 2010 and then this year I pushed the boat out a bit further and had a whole month out there and got to take in my first Song Kran whilst I was there.

I'm mainly here to research teaching as I'm thinking about quitting the UK and trying something new. My friend is a teacher in BKK so this year whilst I was there I went did a day of summer school with him to get a taster.

At the moment (and for the past 10 or so years) I have worked in IT at an Insurance Company but I'd like to get over to LOS and into English teaching. I don't have a degree though so I'm guessing I will need to come do my TEFL and then take it from there.

I think if I had any choice where I ended up, preferable living and working away from BKK - too chaotic for my liking!

It is getting crazy in most major cities in Thailand and particularly those that have international schools.

I live on the outskirts of Pattaya, which is fairly rural and quiet and there are a number of schools employing foreign teachers here.

Good luck and I hope you end up happy during your time here.

I spent a bit of time in Isaan this year, Udon Thani to be precise. I definately found the pace bit more to my liking plus being off the tourist path meant there wasn't a lot of Farang about. I met a few farang teachers whilst I was up there.

Udon Thani as a long term prospect takes a certain temperament.
Flat and featureless for miles, a slow pace of life and a long way from anywhere.. take plenty of books was the advice offered to me, I didn't stay long, but kind of admired the tenacity of those that did. I like hills, and beaches.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

I did teaching in Thailand for a couple of years, I've got some great stories about what happened, and I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

I want to tell you not to do it.....but I can't.

Hi Kendo welcome to the forum, recommend you come to Udon Thani if you are a legit Teacher, the schools here need professional English Teachers badly within the school system.Inexpensive accomodation, easy to get around and although more laid back than Pattaya/Bangkok etc it is a nice place to live.
