    Some advice please.

    Hi Folks
    I think I have only posted 1 thread before.....here goes another !
I live in Koh Samui.......single Dad and have a son of 8yrs.

Next Saturday I am putting my son on a flight from Koh Samui (Bangkok Air) to Singapore. He is being met by his Mum in Singapore and then flying onwards with her to Tokyo for Christmas Hols with the other half of his Family. He is half Nippon!
I have now been in Thailand for two and half years and my kid has not been out of the country in that time. Obviously I have a Visa (O multi entry valid for 15 months)
My kid has a British Passport and just the original 30 day entry that he received on arrival.
My question is about overstay on his passport.
I know that a child under 15 years does not need a visa and I have heard that he cannot be charged for overstay............however I have also been told that Immigration sometimes ask for 20,000 from the parent !!!
Does anyone have experience of a similar situation.......and or how should I react if I am asked to pay for his overstay?
Some advice would be appreciated........I am a little nervous about the situation.
    Many thanks
    Gent

Refuse to pay, and just before boarding time they will let you go.

Bangkok airport tried it on a friend of mine, he was on a real long overstay, went to the office and handed over the 20,000baht which is the maximum fine, they counted the days and wanted 60 odd k Baht, he only had the 20k and told them so, they told him about Thai jails and that would be where he was going, just before the flight was due to leave they let him go and catch it, initially the Thai immigration guy denied any such thing as a limit, which is now 20k baht, said he had never heard of it, so he wanted the 60 odd k baht, nice airport anyway.

My son is 7. I'd be scared to allow him to fly on his own.

I didn't think they were allowed to fly alone under 16 years of age.

Can do, a fight attendant/steward looks after them and escorts them to the immigration counter, but i'd not be happy with that.

A flight to SIngapore only costs $100 or so.
