    Hello

I've lurcked on this board for about a year, mainly getting ideas for a house that I was planning on building in the Chiang Mai area. I finally started the house in June and it should be done sometime in November. I use the same handle on nanaplaza/thai 360, so some of you may know me. I hope to live in Chiang Mai at least 6-7 months of the year.

I'm building just outside of Bosong. Its a two story house made out of teak, with 23 teak posts and two teak houses torn down for their teak. My regular job is my hardwood flooring business but for the last 3 years, I have imported thai furniture/handicrafts to sell. This land is owned by my Thai partner/supplier and i have a 30 year lease on it. She lives next door, her brother lives across the street and I know two other people on the street fairly well, so hopefully, I won't have to worry much if I'm gone for a few months. My biggest complaint about building the house is that the general contractor remenbers my "wish list" of teak panaling and a few other things but did not remember my budget of around 2,000,000 baht, so I'm around 2,800,000 baht to date, which should be enough to complete the house.

Good luck. I dont recommend letting them work on your place when you are not in Chaing Mai. You very well may have to do it again!!

    Good luck.

I really wanted them to wait until September, when I get there. However, there are several things in my favor. The building crew has worked on two other houses in the area and are friends of my next door neighbor, so its unlikely that they would purposely cut corners. My export partner, who lives next door, is on site every day for 2 hours in the morning and 1-2 hours in the afternoon and she does have experience in building one house, and she does buy all materials, which Imhave been promised would be quality materials. We talk at least every other day, so if there are any problems, I hear about it quickly. I do get there in late September, for the last 4-6 weeks of building and will be able to supervise the finishing details. I did get a chance to see some of the structural work the last 2 weeks when I was over there (except for the 2 days I was in the hospital from breaking my arm from a motor scooter accident) and I am confident that the structure will be solid. They did get my attention when an electrical fire (small and quickly put out) started on one of the teak posts, where they had put several tempoary outlets. Worst comes to worst, I can do the trim anf flooring work on my own, if neseccasy (or re-due if necessary) but I do plan on getting one or two second opinions on the structural worthiness of the house when I get back in September.

Its not the foreman I am talking about its the crew, I have a hard time trusting a guy making 200 baht a day; I am not a builder but I have renovated one house and added on a fair amount to the other.

Again I wish ya the best of luck. And agreed you are in a great area, are you on a slope?

We have been wondering who was responsible.
Our cleaners have repeatedly complained about this.
They are now demanding extra money for clearing it up.

I clicked on and, unless I'm doing something wrong, I counted 9 people that have donated. I'll be more than happy to donate the average amount of the nine people (I wonder what the average would be of the total number of members and the total amount donated?)
