    New guy on the block

Good Evening to all TD Forumites,

I've just registered. About me: I'm based in Bolton, North West UK and I am planning to travel to Thailand later this year. I am going to visit around the Chumpon area. I thought this was the place to come to get up to speed on Thai stuff.

I would much appreciate feedback from any TYPE 1 DIABETICS out there. I am an insulin dependent diabetic. I plan to visit Thailand for a few weeks and whilst I'll be carrying sufficient quantities of my medication I would like to know where to get emergency supplies if they got lost / stolen.

At 21.45 hours in my flat here it is 30 degrees centigrade - we are currently having a mini heat wave in the UK - so I reckon that is good acclimatisation practice for my visit.

    Best regards to you all!

You can get insulin over the counter at most pharmacists. If you're using an insulin pen you should bring a spare as it can be difficult to get a replacement here.

Regarding your question BOb is 100% correct!

Yep it's rather warm in Lancashire at present.

    Bolton..

Wow, that's where the M6 is cobblestoned I seem to remember.

    Welcome MH

Tell us though. why are you heading out for Thailand and how long do you intend staying there?

You mention a few weeks, but retrospectively 52 weeks can be a few weeks in the course of a life-time.

You can get approximately 3 months medication up front from your GP if you are going abroad.

    Check it out.

    Enjoy yourself, but be careful.

    Lancashire is great isn't it.

Thanks for the feedback Dr B on the insulin issue. All my insulin is injected by pen type syringes so I'll be sure to bring extra supplies - just hope I don't get 'turned' over on the street.

Haven't got 20 posts yet so couldn't reply directly to your PM. Summer lasted for 2 days [about], back to the usual rain / grey skies plus temp is now back down 19 degrees C.

^^Thats one of the great things about this place. Winter only lasts about 3-4 days. It does get pretty tough in those days when the temp can drop down as low as about 21c. Bloody freezing!

I got myself a coat last year after freezing my knackers off for 3 days. Too late, winter was over and i haven't had the opportunity to wear it again.

Nah, more like Buttlins or Pontins but its like anywhere, it depends who you mix with.

I'd imagine though that Chumpon would become pretty boring soon after breakfast. I'd jump on a boat from there and travel round the near by islands. Koh Tao, Koh Pangnang and Koh Samui. Then I'd go back to the mainland and travel west stopping in Kao Sok national park on the way down to Krabi where there are some more nice islands.
