Andrew Hicks Knocks on the Door

"Teak Door, what's that secret you're keeping?"

Well, I've just signed up so I can find out.

I see that no flaming, abuse or nastiness is tolerated in this section, so maybe I'd better go elsewhere. No, in fact I deplore these things on other forums and hope this is a more convivial place.

My view is that the main problem is the custom of anonymity which enables members to be as offensive as they like without comeback. I am accountable for what I say because I post in my real name and I think that's how it should be.

I am sitting upstairs in my house in Surin and have been out on the verandah surveying my estate and doing a final revision of my novel, THAI GIRL ready for a seventh printing. It's amasing how many typergraphical errers slip through and need correction.

I'd better get back to it, but anyway, I was asked to introduce myself and here I am!

    Andrew.

Why didn't the Thai girl give one to the westerner? It felt as if the writer was intentionally holding out on the reader simply in order to ram home a point that they're not all minxes..

I felt it would have been more realistic if she had been in a supine position within a nanosecond.

In your latest magnum opus - the non fiction one, is there a lot of bucolic shagging upcountry? (Or is it mostly agro-business/fertilizer related narrative?)

Welcome Andrew. Some sections of TD are more "nasty" than others.

Moronic kiddies posts and Issues- well, be warned. Some avoid them.
The TD Lounge can be fairly spirited too. Other sections are a bastion of propriety. Check it out.

Ahhhh Surin, I think there are more long tern expats living in Surin Province than any other provinces in Thailand (excluding Bangkok, Patters, and CM).

Are the three farang pubs / restaurants still full of happy farangs??

Welcome aboard and as for the secret here at TD? All the posters took over long ago and all the mods here are worse than the posters, so they don't care much about what we do or say here!!!!

    Its an anarchist's bliss here!!!!

Don't imagine for one moment this board is unmoderated but I suspect your posting style is unlikely to upset the even tenor of those more precious among us.

Prolonged editing may polish but seldom retrieves. Have you started something else?

^I think he is busy editing his book, which is now in its seventh edition, and his post was in order to point out that out.

And to show his avatar, which is his new non-fiction book.

And to explain why he was posting under his real name; that of the famous author A. Hicks.

I have read books by all of these Thai based authors. Stephen Leather, Andrew Hicks, James Eckhardt.
They are all 3rd rate hacks, but, their books are priced the same as novels written by first rate autors like Bernard Cornwell etc.

Don't read them any more. The stories and plots are hackneyed, weak and are usually a cliche.

Rather spend my money on first rate authors.

yep, I 100% agree with you, the thai presses just love it get any old book out there, and they are totally cringeworthy.

    waste of money.
