So, I finally found the place to introduce myself the same way I found the Teak Door…by accident. First thread I hit was Hillbilly’s epic construction job and knew it was worth the wait. My story…a Russian novel--long, convoluted, and pickled in vodka. It picks up when I met a Thai woman, living/working in the USA and nine years later married her. (Traditional Thai family meets rambunctious American…old story). Anyway a couple of years later I bought 9 rai in the country side a few Km outside of Nong Khai proper and the family exhaled because they knew I wasn’t in it to take advantage of her good and trusting nature. If the dollar is worth more than a cup of koffee ron I now probably plan to probably retire there in probably a few years and build a house if I can probably learn just how when, where and how much to bend my vowels with the just the right whine. For example, KHEE, you really gotta watch that one. At any rate, I had heard/read so many horror stories about construction in Thailand--everything from the mix in the concrete to corrupt officials, not to mention the whole electricity thing, wow!!—that I was really glad to read all the success stories in the Teak Door. Luckily, the wife has a favorite auntie born and raised up there who is also a sharp business woman and is looking out for us. This site gives more hope to my probablys and makes me wish I was there already. It’s a great site…tell your friends.
