My best advice is to make sure you rent a place that has a massive Air conditioner in it.
It will be filthy hot up there.
^ Apparently, he's been here about 6 years...But Welcome to the Chaiyaphum Subsidiary of the Buffalo Board...
anything else ? a lift from the airport.Originally Posted by nundadevil

You've got some nice mountains to your west (real nice), and not much farang scene at all. Hope you like the quiet life, as I do, otherwise you'll find yourself heading into Udon and KK on a regular basis.
except when the neighbour dies, then all hell breaks loose with a non-stop blaring of music for 4 or 5 days.Originally Posted by sabang

otherwise its quiet and peaceful.
There is only one hospital in Chaiyaphum, Ram Hospital near the Big C. Its very basic and they will refer anything serious to doctors in Korat. The best thing is to go into Nakhon Ratchachima (korat), about 60 minutes away as they have a Bangkok Hospital and other facilities that are pretty good.
As for weather, Chaiyaphum is about 800 feet above sea level. The summers are hot, but the rest of year, the weather is a lot cooler and less humid than Bangkok. In fact, its going to be 17C tonight.
Four National Parks in the area and lots of really good people but really quiet due to access. That is going to change however once they finish the four lane road up from the main highway this year.
Welcome to the neighborhood

Yup, fully agree with both Sabang and Thaimeme as well as Elation's comments. We built a house in the hills up there a year or two ago (there's a thread about it somewhere in the construction forum which has some pictures of what the scenery is like up in the mountains that Sabang refers to). Actually, without wishing to promote the building thread, I'll see if I can dig out the link for you...
... here it is: https://teakdoor.com/construction-in-...rbs-patch.html (Roobarb's patch)
I somewhat disagree with Terry's comment about needing a decent AC, but it depends on where you will be living. We have no AC in our place and have never missed it - a fireplace and heating would actually be the first priority. Come down from the hills though and things get do get hot and sticky.
Things are a little limited in terms of medical facilities. There's enough there to deal with emergencies, Ruampaet (Matsubayashi) Hospital sorted out the various occasions my son managed to do something careless such as break bones or need stitches. As Elation has suggested, for routine stuff it's probably best to go to Korat or Khon Kaen.
There's a decent little expat bar in Chaiyaphum town that opened up about a year or so ago. It's run by a British guy called Ben and his Thai wife Nat. They are both genuinely friendly folks and it's well worth dropping by to meet them and find out a little about what's on and where to go for things. I can't find their website but it's called 'The Number 1 Bar & Restaurant' and is on the same road as Lotus Tesco (go out of Lotus Tesco, turn right and it's about 100 metres down the road on the opposite side). Here's a link from trip advisor:

Personally I really enjoy the life when I'm up there, pottering about in my own little world doing my own thing. There are not a lot of foreigners around which only adds to the charm.
Best of luck with the move.

^ Good i'm in brissie at the moment.

If you don't drink now you will in 6 months.

Rugby is carried on Setanta Sports, which seems to be a dedicated rugby channel 365/24/7 but rugby is also occasionally on some of the dedicated TrueVision channels.
I have to warn you, it is expensive. I'm paying for the Gold package, which costs around 1500 THB/mo. And it cuts out a couple of sports channels, of which the most painful to me is ASN bc it is, I believe, 100% dedicated to carrying North American sports. But no worries, Setanta is still available to me. If you want to go hog wild, the most expensive package is at least 2200 baht, I believe.
I forget whether or not you posted if you were going to build or live in an apt. or condo. Some of those won't allow TrueVisions satellites.
Cheers and welcome (wait for Betty, of course)
