    Hello to All!

Greetings! The name is Gary I am Canadian living now in Sooke B.C with my wife who originally comes from a small Muu Baan outside of Chiang Mai,close to Mae Rim.I first went to Thailand in 1992 and lived there for five years, starting 1996 and returning to Canada end of 2001.My years in C.M were not your usual rich falang story. For close to 5 years I survived without a valid Visa and with no funds coming in from abroad. It was an amazing learning experience, adversity obliging me to learn how to speak basic Thai as well as a couple of Ka Meung expressions(getting rusty now probably).I lived in Thai apartments, houses etc.
and learned how to eat well at 15-25 baht.My adventures were numerous now that I think of it..but enough about me.
I really enjoy this site as I intend one day to spend more time in North Thailand again ,and reading about the joys and pitfalls(pratfalls??)is really enjoyable(sometimes familiar). The thing is my Mums getting on and my Dad's in an extended care facility with Alzheimer(shitty way to go).For now, we visit,we were there Nov last year and are saving and planning diligently for a two month extended visit, starting very end of Dec or beginning of January.Maybe we can bump into a couple of you characters out there in TeakDoor land!
In the meantime, thanks for the fun read
wishing you all the the best Chok Dee!
    Gary

    Nice introduction, Gary.

Please share some of your stories with us as it gets boring reading ChiangMai noon's threads about squat toilets and the like.

I'm sure there'll be a whole host of characters willing to meet up with you when you visit Chiang Mai next, just be wary of any French Canadian characters who want to show you some 'cute girls'...
You cannae live wiv 'em and ye cannae fucking shoot 'em

Maybe you would like to post this in a new thread in the Living In Thailand area?

Or, I could move it for you? For a small fee

Well, welcome I guess. How did you manage to get out of Thailand after living there for FIVE years with NO visa? Who did you scarf for food money? And then how did you get back into the country?
Sorry, I think you are a troll.

That's Okay.. thanks for toning it down a bit.
I have NEVER written about the things that I experienced .I still wonder why I even started! They encouraged me..what can I say!
I still have a great affinity for C.M and surrounding area.
My wife,my friend,my love(Too mushy? sorry)still has her old mum in the old Muu Baan just outside of Mae Rim,couple of months ago she moved into her new house(with a little awful Canadian help )
How did I continue for five years?
First off A Faland who starts scarfing wouldn't last long as he would serve no function to anyone.I started by trying to become an English teacher, however I also knew a couple of people in the antique business(NO Buddahs)
Sorry I am sending in shorter segments because if I take too long my computer says I have to refresh and then I lose everything I have written.

YES! Tell us more-how about your Thai family and the food you ate? Tell us about Thai humor, I know they have no clue about mine and I never get a laugh. I need one because I have a crazy sense of humor and things get dull in Thailand.

Thanks hillbilly....no easy answer for sure. There really is nothing you can do about this disease at this stage.Watching someone lose all recollection of who he was,who we are ,was not easy.At least the extended care home that he is in is really nice with very dedicated staff.
