Thread: Greetings from an Old N00b

Hi all - just moved back to Thailand after being in Cambodia and Laos for the last 19 years. Used to live in Surin (CUSO volunteer), but now in Chiang Mai for the kids' schooling with my Cambodian wife. Feels kind of funny to be back after all these years. Hoping to stay at least 3 years and looking forward to some good times. Sorry if I start blitzing the board with various questions, but promise to try the search function first and will contribute more later.

Thanks all - quite nice to be welcomed without having the piss taken out of one as is common on some other boards I belong to. Always pleased to provide whatever opinions I have on stuff, regardless of whether they're correct or not. Cheers

probably not kosher to wish you an enthusiastic " welcome" as I myself am only new here. But welcome welcome welcome anyway. Look forward to hearing about Laos and Cambodia comparisons. As for for ' taking the piss' , the regulars will eventually give you your due desserts. Again 'welcome'.

As this seems to be of interest to a number of people, I'd be happy to discuss anything you like.

I know that there seems to be a lot of people who are considering moving to Cambodia from Thailand for example, probably because of more difficult visa situations. That seems to be quite actively discouraged by the Cambodian-based expats who don't want the place to be "overrun" and don't seem to recognize that they were once new to the place and obviously came from elsewhere (ain't it always the way, just like immigration into North America or Australia). Don't know what the protocol is here, whether one should start a new thread or what, no doubt some long-timer will let me know soon enough.
